October 6, 200718 yr Negative publicity is never good publicity. Yea, I guess that is why baseball suffered so much this year with all the negative publicity that Bonds received.
October 6, 200718 yr I also dont get how Bonds "saved baseball". The vast majority A)didnt want him to break the record and B)dont recognize him as the HR king even after he did. If you think Selig does anymore than tolerate Bonds, your free to feel that way. You are wrong, but still free to feel that way.

October 7, 200718 yr For those of you that don't want Bonds on the team because he is a "cheater" or "public enemy #1", I have a solution. Just find another team to root for if we sign him next year. Hammer will fit quite nicely @ 1B Sincerely, The Problem Solver
October 7, 200718 yr i wouldnt mind seeing bonds come here, but i think its a bit far fetched. but im wondering why would loria spend the $13-15m its going to take Bonds to come here, rather than spend it on a combination of players. personally i wouldnt mind seeing us sign andruw for 1/13 rather than a 44 year old but its october 2007 and we are still a month away from the real offseason anyway
October 7, 200718 yr Bonds is public enemy #1 to the commissioners office. Bonds was one of the players who helped single handedly save baseball, he is not a the public enemy #1 to the commissioners office despite what you want to believe. Any publicity is good publicity, and Bonds is more publicity for baseball than any other player. Are you aware that Bonds did almost nothing for ratings in his quest for 756, I grant tickets were sold but the court of public opinion is clear against him . Very few changed their channel to see what Bonds was doing
October 7, 200718 yr Marion Jines went down in flames and the word is that Bonds is next on the agenda
October 7, 200718 yr Marion Jines went down in flames and the word is that Bonds is next on the agenda I love when you pull things like this out of your ass.
October 7, 200718 yr Are you aware that Bonds did almost nothing for ratings in his quest for 756, No, I'm not aware of this. Link? I grant tickets were sold ty for the grant. but the court of public opinion is clear against him You don't say!?!?! Very few changed their channel to see what Bonds was doing Link? Everyone I knew, everyone on this board and everyone who likes baseball put ESPN on every time he came to bat, but yea, you say nobody changed the channel to see what Bonds was doing so I believe you.
October 7, 200718 yr Marion Jines went down in flames and the word is that Bonds is next on the agenda Both Jones and Bonds had denied knowingly taking steroids. The funny thing is that Victor Conte, the kingpin of BALCo, said Jones was a liar from the start, while Bonds was telling the truth. Now Jones admits she took steroids.

Im sorry but I don't have a link since I believe these were comments made on sports radio I believe either by Peter Gammons or Tim Kurkjian. This is not my opinion if that is your concern
October 7, 200718 yr These Guys work for the network so they would obviously have first hand knowledge. If anyone knows how to access that info let me know. I love posting stuff like that for everyone to see
October 7, 200718 yr Bonds' drive in San Francisco came at 11:51 p.m. EDT. During the 11:45 p.m. to midnight time period, ESPN2's telecast averaged a 1.7 cable rating (1.6 million homes), and for the following 15 minutes the rating jumped to 1.9 (1.8 million homes). http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-b...p&type=lgns ESPN is normally 1.5 That's all I can find.
October 7, 200718 yr Bonds' 756th home run received a 1.1 rating, compared to 22.3 for Aaron. According to The New York Times, the eight games ESPN broadcast chasing Bonds rated only slightly better than the late night games (10 PM EST starts) ESPN had in 2006. The average ESPN SNBG did a 1.2 rating, the average FOX SBBG did a 2.4 rating. Glavine's 300th win pulled in a 3.0 rating. So yeah, EA is correct, Bonds didn't do much for ratings.
October 7, 200718 yr Godfather I believe the difference lies in that it was nowhere near what McGwire was able to pull ratings wise from the casual fans when he broke Maris's record. That is what called a ratings mover
October 7, 200718 yr We never were fined. a) it wasnt our money as a team, it was lorias money b) is it possible something happended that nobody on the forum caught or saw? I'll repeat THE FLORIDA MARLINS WERE NEVER FINED. THERE WERE NO TAMPERING CHARGES.
October 7, 200718 yr I'd like to see Bonds here. If for no other reason than I think he would help us win everyday he is in the lineup. Platooning him with Cody, as someone else mentioned, would probably be an excellent idea. Besides, I think he'd get along well with our team...
October 7, 200718 yr We never were fined. a) it wasnt our money as a team, it was lorias money b) is it possible something happended that nobody on the forum caught or saw? Every time I read about that plane ride from every writer they all say w were fined. Swift says w weren't. I can't say either way with any certainy. But my $$$ would go with the real writers and their actual inside information.
October 7, 200718 yr Google Search reveals no fines. Hooray the Internet. According to an N.L. club official who has spoken with the Giants, San Francisco's front office "wasn't happy about it by any means." Tampering charges seemed possible, but Loria says he and Giants president Peter Magowan have talked and smoothed things over. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m120..._n16521197/pg_2
