Marlins Eyeing Bonds?

Featured Replies

i would keep our player we have now and sign up help for pitching staff and getting bond that will most likely retire after 2008 season he might likely go to mets or nyy

As for Bonds, all the steroid/cheater talk really takes a back seat for me to the belief that he isn't going to help the team defensively, hasn't had more than 400 at bats in a season since 2002 (and 403 in 2002). While admittedly his OPS is stellar, and BBs translates into a terrific OBP, his home runs are in decline and were he to lose just a split second in 2008 whether it be age generally or one of his nagging injuries, he could quickly go from the predator to the prey.

It's hard for me to imagine him in anything other than a controlled environment, in other words DHing in the American league. Or retired.

Right... but he's walked 132 and 115 times the last 2 years...

it's not like it's under 400 plate appearances... it's under 400 at bats

and even with his decline in homeruns, his .565 would have put him at 6th in the NL if qualified

say his slugging dropped to .500 next year, he'd still easily have a .900+OPS

And let's not forget the 232 walks from 2004.

obviously due to roiding up

Hey, we're talking pure fantasy now!

A-Rod at SS

Hanley to 3B

Cabrera to 1B

Jones in CF

Bonds in LF

Willingham to C (now known as the Butcher!)

a real fantasy would have 3-4 puntolicious players

See now you're getting it!

Roids + Bonds = Super human player

Super Human player + Pitched Balls = Home Runs

Home Runs + Opposing Pitchers = Fear

Fear + Opposing Pitchers = More Walks

I knew the equation well beforehand

Nothing wrong with a review to stay sharp.

I think I made my quota :-)

Willingham as a Catcher with his current stats and I think I caused my quota to explode into confetti!

gimme Juan Pierre, Scott Podsednik and Nick Punto somewhere on that team...

These players would def offset all the meaningless HR hit by Arod and Barry. Career LOSERS.

Google Search reveals no fines.

Hooray the Internet.

According to an N.L. club official who has spoken with the Giants, San Francisco's front office "wasn't happy about it by any means." Tampering charges seemed possible, but Loria says he and Giants president Peter Magowan have talked and smoothed things over.

Hooray.

Intelligence - 1, BroncoBob - 0.

That's funny. But I didn't say they were fined. I said I would go with everything I have read from other sources saying a fine was levied. Knock my intelligence all you want. I still go with what every other media source reports over your infatuation with making up/twisting facts to make your self look good. Just like this time.

Now read that article again. Alls it says is that some diciplinary action may be taken, as in "tampering charges seemed possible." It hadn't at that time. Nothing at all says NO FINES were ever levied. The only way you could read this differently is if you think the Giants were the ones that would be setting some type of fine, and Loria had sweet talked them out of it.

One article that dosen't really back up your "intelligent" revelation against so many in just the last few days, not to mention in the past. Intelligent people go with the numbers on this one.

Who cares?

Useless stat! Bonds played 126 games, which if the team platoons him with Ross it'll put up 1.050+ OPS from the LF spot

OBP is far better than SLG, his HRs are only 'in decline' when compared to his amazing peak, he is putting out HRs at a 35+HR pace if he were playing 155G

It's hard for me to imagine him in anything other than a controlled environment, in other words DHing in the American league. Or retired.

Barry Bonds has several years left, and will be a DH, but he can roam LF for another couple I'd think.

bonds hitting behind Miguel Cabrera would give Miggy pitches to hit. Imagine the payoff of the lineup

Hanley SS

Hermida RF

Cabrera 3B

Bonds LF

Willingham 1B

Uggla 2B

TBD CF

TBD C

Willis SP

Be nice to dream, as miggy would get lots of pitches as would hanley and Hermida. That would be one of, if not the best lineup in the Majors. and Bonds Miggy makes the best 3/4 in baseball arguably.

I actually put Bonds ahead of Cabrera if we're doing that, because that would give 3 potential .380+ OBP guys in front of Miguel (Not to mention a potential .500 OBP).

Fear + Hatred = The Dark Side

Actually that's Fear -> Anger -> Hate -> Suffering -> The Dark Side

I myself think we need to go for the _-Rods. A-Rod and I-Rod. They've been teammates before.

No need to get Barry Bonds...

Lets just get some pitching and fill the holes with afordable decent players...

It doesnt matter how many Homer's Barry hits if were giving up 10 runs a game..

Plus am sure he wants to end his career with a team thats gonna be in the playoffs...

I like this as well.

That line-up would be so fierce if the holes in CF and C are filled. And Cody PH vs lefties or starting in LF vs lefties to give Barry a day off here and there. Massive.

Sure worked out for Jeff Conine. :mischief

1) No player that is decent is affordable in this market

2) I very much doubt we give up 10 runs a game. It takes a tremendous effort to be as bad as we were this year with a home ballpark like pro player. The numbers will even out

3) I also very much doubt this is his last season. He wants 3,000 hits as a left-fielder. NL teams have a huge edge with him. He's made no secret he's not ready to be just a DH.
