  1. Fredi has done a very good job with this marlins team. We have so many young players that they would joke before the season that we were like having a AAA team. Look at how the Mets and Nationals played. Look at Atlanta. We did better than them and they have a much higher payroll and more experienced players. Was Fredi a perfect manager, no but who is? Look at how well the Yankees played having Girardi. It is not Fredi's fault that we did not make the playoffs. Mr. Loria is slowly turning into a poor man's version of Mr. Steinbrenner (emphasis on the word "poor"). You can not drink Champagne on a beer budget. My hope is that someone with true baseball knowledge, A.K.A. Mr. Beinfest, sits down with Mr. Loria and straightens him out. Loria needs to wake-up and smell the roses - give the guy some public recognition, and move on to 2010.
  2. Friends, if we go Orange and Black, will we not look like the Orioles? And Halloween? If we go Orange and black we will look just like the Giants and the Orioles, and yes Halloween. Hell, we should just go red! Tommy Hutton answered an email the other night regarding seat and team color. He said that no other baseball team has that "sea blue" color. Maybe I am color blind, but I thought I saw the very same color seats in the Blue Jays stadium, and the Rays stadium. The darker teal that were in the earlier rendings seemed to be fine. It wasn't to pastel or bright, and easy to look at. And as far as Teal being an unmarketable color, I guess then the Dolphins stuff doesn't or never sold well?? As you can see there are differences in the types of Blue. However, I also disagree with Sampson and Loria. I think the Teal or some version of it, should be used instead of blue. There are many temas that use blue in many sports and it is too common. The teal has a definate miami/ south florida feel to it and is a very unique color. They are missing the big picture and looking to much at the project as some type of abstract art work. They need to do what they did in St. Louis and listen to the fans/costumers who are paying for it and lose their ego's.
  3. hah !! i bet theres a few people in boston and chicago that will disagree with you on that , maybe a few in LA and stlouis etc. ok you people dont seem to understand. the only thing i said AND READ CLOSELY NOW IS = THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY ADVERTISING ANYWHERE WHERE THE BALL IS IN PLAY LET ME SAY IT ONE MORE TIME THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY ADVERTISING ANYWHERE WHERE THE BALL IS IN PLAY AND THE OUTFIELD WALL IS STILL IN PLAY. THAT WAS MY POINT. I never said there shouldnt be any advertising i never said advertising wasnt around back then . and you people bust out with yankee stadium and teams need money blah blah blah theres a million places around the park to have advertising just keep it away from the field WHICH IS WHY ..... I POSTED THE COLORADO ROCKIES OUTFIELD BECAUSE THEY DO THIS . AND YES THEY HAVE PLENTY OF ADVERTISING JUST NOT ANYWHERE WHERE THE BALL IS IN PLAY I HATE SEEING A PLAYER MAKE A GREAT CATCH WHILE SLAMMING INTO A GIECKO SIGN OR COFFEE SIGN ETC THAT WAS AND IS MY POINT I agree with your post. As a baseball fan, nothing would bother me more than seeing a nike symbol on the bases or Coca-cola signs on the players uniforms. I would hate to see a Home Depot or Burger King advertisement on the grass in center field. I think we all agree advertising is necessarry, but it should be tactful and out of the field of play. Although I like car racing as a sport(much advertising on the uniforms and cars), I don't believe in advertising on the uniforms or field of play in baseball should be done.
  4. The Florida Marlins have asked Major League Baseball to host the 2015 All-Star Game, three years after the team’s new stadium is slated to open. Claude Delorme, senior VP of stadium development, told participants at a recent networking event for contractors seeking stadium work that the team is lobbying for 2015. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig had not yet responded to the request. --- The New York Mets’ new Citi Field will reportedly get the call in 2013 when the National League hosts the game. An American League city will host the 2014 game. Take Note: 2010 - LA Angels host the game 2011 - Chase Firld AZ Diamondbacks 2012 - Kansas City Royals 2013 - Citi field - Mets 2014 _ Target Park Minnesota Twins 2015 - Probably Marlins (Remember they were supposed to host the 2000 game, but it went to Atlanta. As long as the stadium is built on time time we will get it.
  5. If they made the seats teal oh my, that would be dirty There is a reason I think the seats are that blue color. Expect to be buying new hats, jerseys and other team stuff, because that blue could very well be part of a new color scheme for the team. But I love the Teal and Black! If we go to silver blue and black we will look like the damn rays The color will stay blue. The Marlins will have a completely new color scheme. It is part of their re-launch of the franchise. It is more difficult to market greens, yellows, and purples than it is for blues, reds, and blacks. It is simply a numbers game for the team. It is too bad because I love the teal also, and I think it makes us unique.
  6. I honestly do think the location will make a huge difference. As has been discussed, we have decent TV ratings, so there is definitely interest in the team. Due to Landshark's location, NO ONE can walk to the game and there are very few people who can take public transit. When the new stadium comes up in Little Havana, at least hundreds of thousands of people will be within walking distance, and millions will be able to take public transportation. Does this all add up to sellouts and a reinvigorated fan base? That remains to be seen, but I definitely think it bodes well. EDIT: not to mention that the people who do drive to the game may not have to drive as far, or at the very least will be near an area that has "things to do". Landshark is more or less in the middle of nowhere and far away from everybody. Actually, I live in Broward County and the new park is so much further away than Land Shark Stadium. I live in North Broward ( Coral Springs ). The distance from my house to Dolphin stadium is 29 miles and 33 minutes. From my house to the Ornage Bowl is 42 miles and 49 minutes. The difference 13 miles and 16 minutes is really not that much. When you consider you will get a brand new stadium, no rain-outs or rain delays, air conditioned when it is 95 degrees outside in July, August, Sept., better concessions, better sight lines, and more comfortable seating, it really is a no brainer. Miami is more densely populated than Ft. Lauderdale/Broward, so you will have a better chance of drawing bigger crowds. You will also be 1.5 miles away from downtown, so you will get a lot of people who "walk up" to the stadium on game day. For me it would have been nice to have the stadium at the Popamo Park casino, but after trying to get a new stadium built for so many years this was the teams only option that the county and city would approve and it still almost got voted down. We should feel fortunate we are getting a new stadium. Dolphin stadium is not a good place at all to watch a baseball game. Those who are serious baseball fans understand why. Two things: 1. Serious baseball fans shouldn't care what facility they are watching a game in. If you really love the game you are going to games now...in LandShark Stadium. The turnout for the game Lincecum pitched was not very good considering it was your only chance to see him pitch this year, and he is one of the best young arms in the game today. The weekend series against the Rays (no weather problems that weekend either), had terrible attendance. The Rays are a good draw this year, and the turnout in Miami was terrible. I went to a couple of the Brewers games last week (granted the weather was horrible) and nobody was there for a nice series against a first place team. 2. I question how many serious baseball fans we have in this market. I know, I have heard all the same stories about TV ratings that you have heard. But for me, a true measure of your market's interests is at the gates. South Florida will not sell out 40 baseball games a year. We didn't fill the stadium for 8 Dolphins home games last year. As a side note, I'd like to see the Marlins schedule their Saturday games earlier once the new stadium is built. It would be nice to have a game start at about 3 pm, so you can either get to Miami early and do something for lunch before the game, or when the game ends head out to the beach for a night time activity. It also enables families to "make a day of it" so to speak when the ballgame is in the middle of the afternoon. I've done games this way up in Chicago and Cincinnati and it makes for a good weekend day with the family or your buddies. Counterpoint: 1. I was at the game on Sunday and the weather was brutal. It was 100 degrees and there were people getting sun burned, vomiting, and leaving early because it was oppressive. My two kids couldn't last past the 3rd inning. The facility does matter! If we had a rectractable roof, we would have stayed and enjoyed the whole game. There was an old man sitting in front of me with a Yankees jersey and he fainted and had to be lifted to the first aid station. It is ridiculous to bear that torture to watch a game. That is one of the reasons attendance is so low. I will only go to the games in April and May until the new ballpark opens. When you factor in the rain delays with the hot afternoon games, I don't know how you can say the facility doesn't matter. Obviously you don't go to these games. 2. Over 100,000 fans in three days. I know many were Yankee fans; however, baseball fans none the less.

  8. Ryder seems to still have a lot of cash. They plan to donate $1M to the Red Cross. They should be able to spare $1-2M a year for the naming rights. See the link; http://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2009/06/01/daily4.html?ana=from_rss
  9. At the plaza outside the stadium I would like to see; 1) Bars - Sports bar, IrishEnglish Pub, Mex/Latin Pub (like Tiajuana Taxi Co.) 2) Restaraunts - La Carreta (Cuban), Chillis, TGI Fridays, Hot Dog, Hamburger Joint, Flannigan's, Chik-Fil-A 3) Retail shops - Sports Authority, The Gap, Banana Republic (most appropriate), others etc. 4) Miscellaneous - ESPN Sportszone, Ritz Camera, Outdoor batting cages and/or miniature golf course/ driving range 5) Baseball museum - General baseball artifacts as well as Marlin baseball history ( Two world championships etc.) I think if it becomes an entertainment complex, it could be a year round venue and would bring large amounts of people all the time. Also, if they build a soccer stadium on the rest of the land then they can make it an even bigger complex. More people, bigger crowds, better gameday experience. 1) Best Buy or Radioshak to buy batteries for the digital cameras 2) Dunkin donuts and Quiznos
  10. I like it - would still love to see some kind of teal monster built in though and a triangle of sorts i think the glass wall, fountain and palms will all look fantastic and help create a really good feel at the game - those early season games where it's warm and the stadium structure is open, but still providing some shade and a nice breeze, perched in some of my favorite seats (upper deck over home plate), looking out of the beautiful grass, through a glass wall showing downtown miami, palm fronds waving, fountains spraying, a marlin framed - hanley up at bat just a perfect scene I like the glass wall with the view of downtown Miami as well; however, they have too many beams blocking the view. I counted about 9 when I looked at the drawings. I don't know if it is feasible, but I would prefer only 3 or 4 beams/pillars to have less of the view obstructed. This plaza looks like it will be awesome. Does anyone know if there is a groundbreaking date? I heard it was July 6th.
  11. I have said it once and ill say it again, I am really against using orange as part of the teams colors. Yeah, a lot of folks are. The reason I put it in my design is because I think it's almost a guarantee that the new uniforms will have orange to some extent. So without making it a primary color, I used it only as trim. Lets face it, the current teal is nothing more than trim anyway. Please no orange. Teams with orange - Mets, Dolphins, and Hurricanes (college). The marlins need to distinguish themselves from these competing teams not try to emulate them. Try at least yellow/gold if you need an accent color or a light pruple like the colorado rockies. Yellow and green/teal looks better than orange and green (and it is more unique). Absolutely, No Orange! Just because you are playing at the orange bowl doesn't mean the colors of the uniforms have to be orange.
  12. Felid, Stadium, Park, Yard, Diamond, Arena, Colosseum are all possibilities, buit the one I ilke and think would be unique would be grounds. The New York Giants played at the Polo Grounds. There were fields where I grew up called the Parade Grounds. If they contact Marcelo Claure, a Bolivian cellphone mogul and owner of BrightStar Communications, a $5 billion company that distributes one out of every 15 cellphones around the world they can name the new stadium "The BrightStar Grounds at the Orange Bowl" or if they use Ryder Trucking they can call it "The Ryder Grounds at the Orange Bowl".
  13. There's no question that the Marlins will try to sell naming rights to a company so the stadium won't be called "Miami Stadium" or "Marlins Stadium" or the "Fish Tank" or even "Loria Field." This is one of the huge revenue streams that the team's been clamoring for for so long. Typically, a hometown company steps up to buy naming rights. Office Depot slapped their name on the Panthers' arena, if memory serves, and Ryder had naming rights for the UM convocation center for some time, too. So these companies have got to be in the running for naming rights. BK has been sold to numerous companies over the years, and I'm pretty sure that BK's parent is not in So Florida. Bacardi, of course, is headquartered here, so that's a possibility, too. Just for fun, I searched all 2008 Fortune 500 companies in the state of Florida. Here are the results: 105 Tech Data (Clearwater) 107 Publix Super Markets (Lakeland) 138 AutoNation (Fort Lauderdale) 164 Office Depot (Delray Beach) 168 FPL (Juno Beach) 188 World Fuel Services (Miami) 219 Jabil Circuit (St. Petersburg) 256 Lennar (Miami) 261 CSX (Jacksonville) 347 Winn-Dixie Stores (Jacksonville) 371 Ryder System (Miami) 415 Darden Restaurants (Orlando) 435 Fidelity National Financial (Jacksonville) 481 Fidelity National Information Services (Jacksonville) BK Holdings is way, way down the list. So of the Fortune 500 in Florida, only Lennar, Ryder, World Fuel Services (I've never even heard of them), AutoNation, and Office Depot are in South Florida. Pretty slim pickings. I don't see AutoNation (with its Huizenga connection) being a good match. Don't know why Bacardi isn't even on this list, but they certainly have the national profile to want naming rights. They just may not be able to afford it. Let the speculation continue... This is exactly the list I was looking for. We need a company with a lot of cash that they are willing to spend on advertising. From this my list would be; 1) Bacardi Park at the Orange Bowl ( I know they are not on the list ) (keeps the tradition) 2) Publix Park ( they have the captial, but I don't think they will spend the money 3) Autonation Field at the OB ( not a great name, but they have the cash and location. Also, they are direct competitors to Braman, so they can screw Braman by sending a lot of business to his competition. In a way this would be sweet revenge against a person who almost killed the stadium deal. 4) Ryder Park at the OB ( Not bad, not great. A little bit simple though 5) Fidelity National Financial Field at the OB ( Typical bank endorsed stadium, would be my last choice.)
  14. Please no orange!!! We don't want to be the Mets or the Dolphins. The colors are great the way they are, Teal, Black and Gray or White.
  15. More retail in the great Plaza: 1) Coffe Shop - Starbuck's, Seattle's best, etc. 2) Dunkin Donuts, Waffle house, or Original Pancake house 3) Ice Cream Parlor - Coldstone, Baskin Robbins, etc. 4) Pizza Parlor - Any Italian shop that has authentic pizza
