10 Years Ago Today
That game was played in snow flurries. And if I remember correctly that lone hit came VERY late in the game. Alex was working on the franchise's 2nd no-no. Any way to look that up and see if my memory is correct or if I am suffering fron another bout of CRS? MLB.tv
http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?opt...5&Itemid=52 MLB.TV Unable to Keep Up with Demand Written by Maury Brown Wednesday, 04 April 2007 MLB.TV As the Extra Innings negotiations drag on well past the beginning of the season, MLB is finding that popularity?even of the forced variety?can come with a price. Case in point, MLB.TV. With many consumers caught in the Extra Innings squeeze-play, many are looking to make sure that they can catch out-of-market games through MLB?s online service. When coupled with MLB offering up MLB.TV free via a 5-Day Trial, and an advertising blitz that saw a full-page ad in today?s USA Today, demand may be at the highest levels yet. That has created quality issues, especially with the use of Mosaic. The Mosaic Blog for MLB, which is tracking issues and working to resolve them, is being hit hard with quality concerns. As one reader commented: Guys, I understand that launching a new product is difficult, and I know you are working hard. But you need to start yelling over to the MLB Executives that the time has come for a public apology about this. We are into Day 4 of the Regular Season and the MLB.tv experience is continuing to degrade. Given the visibility of the Extra Innings negotiations, and the off-season advertisements touting the increased bandwidth being offered, MLB.com should have been prepared for the issues. Consumers may wish to wait until the bugs are sorted out before making the jump to MLB.TV at this time due to this news.

Game 3 Thoughts
Attention all: Its only one game. We arent going to win every game. We won a series on the road, lets be happy about that. I'm not putting it all on Julio.....We had 2 chances to get insurance runs and we couldn't come through(MAYBE it wouldn't have matter, but maybe we pitch someone else in a non-save situation). Washington didn't show much in 2.5 games, we should have put them away. Some teams find ways to win, some find ways to lose. We should have found a way to win today....we didn't. You gotta beat the bad teams, do what you can against others.

Distance on those two HRs?
Not sure how reliable this website is....I just started following it. It tries to estimate the true distance of a hit. FWIW. http://www.hittrackeronline.com/top_true_distance.php http://www.hittrackeronline.com/top_standard_distance.php Dan Uggla standard distance 424ft ..... true distance 463ft Miguel Cabrera standard 408ft .....true 429 ft.

A Fan Letter for Perry Hill
Coach Hill, Thanks.....for working with our defense, so they were in the proper position to make that "dazzling" defensive play. Hopefully the lessons will be remembered. It will also seem strange not seeing you greeting base runners at 1B. We've gone through a few managers, and coaches, in the last 5 years. The one constant, on the coaching staff, was you. Thanks for staying as long as you did. You and your family will be in our thoughts. We wish you well. Rex

Jim Souhan: Castillo will beat you 'til it hurts
From the Mpls. Star Tribune, registration may be required. http://www.startribune.com/150/story/1083732.html Jim Souhan: Castillo will beat you ?til it hurts Twins second baseman Luis Castillo sometimes moves as if his body is falling apart, then he?ll deliver a clutch hit or a diving stop. By Jim Souhan, Star Tribune Last update: March 27, 2007 ? 8:54 PM FORT MYERS, Fla. ? Luis Castillo is prepared to remind Minnesotans that "icing" is not just a hockey term. Castillo, the Twins' second baseman, wears ice bags the way supermodels wear Dolce & Gabbana ? frequently, and with a dramatic flair. If there is such a thing as body language, Castillo's speaks with a stutter. The guy should come with his own scaffolding. Castillo is known for begging his way into the lineup, limping to the plate, cruising into first base on a bloop hit, looking into the stands for a doctor who can perform knee-replacement surgery ? then stealing second on the next pitch. This spring, Castillo looks typically rickety and effective. He hit a two-run single in the second inning of the Twins' 4-3 victory over the Yankees at Hammond Stadium ? and stole second on the next pitch. He's batting .438 this spring, and vowing to improve on a 2006 performance that proved vital. "I had a good spring before, but this year, I feel much better," he said. "I'm more in shape. I know I'm going to be in the leadoff spot more. Last year, I was going to be hitting second. This year is different. I want to steal more bases. I'm going to be more aggressive." The iceman goeth. Castillo stole 25 bases last year, his highest total since he stole 48 in 2002 with the Marlins, and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire learned not to pay attention if Castillo uses crutches to reach first. "We had a game early in the season, and Luis was limping, and Gardy was like, 'What's wrong with Luis?"' said catcher Mike Redmond, who broke into the Marlins' system in '93 with Castillo. "He was trying to get an infielder ready. I was like, 'Hey, Gardy, that's just Luis. Don't take him out. He wants to play.' He'll limp around like that, then he'll make a play in the hole or beat out a grounder." Said Castillo: "Sometimes I'm hurt. Sometimes I let the other team see I'm hurt, and then I take advantage." Gardenhire's decision to shift Castillo to the leadoff spot was one of the many moves that roughly coincided with the Twins' four-month run of excellence last season. "Luis is one of the biggest gamers I've ever played with," Redmond said. "He's a little beat up. He's played a lot of games over the years. But nobody wants to win more than Luis. "If you watch him after he makes an out, and he's flipping his glove in the air and beating himself up, you might say, 'What's wrong with this guy?' I know he's mad because he didn't get on base. Nobody knows him better than me, and if I was going to take a second baseman, Luis would be on my team every time." Said Torii Hunter: "He's always flinching and talking to himself on the field. I think he's talking to himself. There's nobody else around." Castillo might be the anti-Twin. He doesn't run full speed on every ground ball. While his teammates run off the field after the third out, Castillo looks like he's window shopping in the Mall of America. "He was big for this team last year, man," Redmond said. "We have a lot of young players who hadn't always played through nagging injuries, and there was Luis, icing those knees and asking to play." This is the last year of Castillo's four-year contract. He'll make $5.75 million, then become a free agent. By next season, top infield prospect Alexi Casilla could replace Castillo at second, or perhaps, with a big year, third baseman Matt Moses could move to the big leagues and allow Nick Punto to shift to second or return to a utility role. Twins fans gloat over the trade General Manager Terry Ryan made to acquire Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano for A.J. Pierzynski. How about this one: Minor-league pitchers Travis Bowyer and Scott Tyler for Castillo. The Marlins released Bowyer this spring, and Tyler is still in the mid-minors. "He's won three Gold Gloves and a World Series ring, but he's still hungry," Redmond said. "When we traded for him, the first thing he asked me was, 'Are we good?' He wants to win, man, and he was a big part of our winning last year."

Heat will win the East
Heat's Wade has extensive workout BY MICHAEL WALLACE mwallace@MiamiHerald.com Heat guard Dwyane Wade completed his most extensive workout Tuesday since he dislocated his shoulder last month and could begin practicing with the team as early as next week. Wade went through shooting drills on a side court as his teammates practiced Tuesday morning at AmericanAirlines Arena. Once the 90-minute practice ended, Wade continued to shoot and drive to the basket for another hour in a workout with rookie point guard Chris Quinn and two Heat assistant coaches. Wade said afterward it was the most work he has done on the court since he dislocated his left shoulder and sustained a torn labrum during a Feb. 21 loss in Houston. ''I'm continuing to work every day, and when it feels right, it'll feel right,'' Wade said. ``Today was my first day. That was my introduction. It was pretty good work. Every day I try to shoot more and more. ``Where I felt the night of the injury to where I am now feels like a year ago. It just feels great to be out there.'' Wade, the NBA's fourth-leading scorer at 28.8 points a game, has missed 17 games since the injury. But the Heat (38-32) has gone 12-5 in his absence and moved into first place in the Southeast Division with Monday night's win against Atlanta. Heat coach Pat Riley said Wade and forward Jason Kapono, who is recovering from an ankle injury, will not travel with the team on its three-game trip that begins Wednesday in Toronto and continues Friday at Minnesota and Sunday at Detroit. But both players could be back on the practice court when the Heat returns. Wade said a follow-up MRI exam on his shoulder Friday revealed the joint is healing and growing stronger with rehabilitation. Riley said that although it was encouraging to see Wade increasing his workload on the practice court, it was too soon to offer a time frame for his potential return to game action. ''There's no sense putting a date on it until there's a date,'' Riley said. 'But he's arriving mentally at a time when he's going to give it a shot at practice, maybe sometime next week. But there's still an `if' here. ``He's a very valuable asset to this city and franchise. We want to make sure he feels comfortable with his health.'' http://www.miamiherald.com/416/story/54507.html
