Autographs
Savafan, how do you get this stuff? Amazing collection. Some of it was just being in the right place at the right time, getting to know some of the right people in the industry (agents), some correspondence via snail-mail and e-mail. I had a bit of notoriety myself once having been named one of the top 25 poets in the world under the age of 25 (2001-2002), and had a few fans amongst the elite.

Reds in '06!!!!!
As a Reds fan, I know we have the offense to take the division. Problem is, we lack the pitching. Man you are wise! That's the smartest thing you've said in this thread so far.

NFL Lawsuit
FWIW, the city of Cincinnati stopped the Bengals from doing this as well. It became known that the patdowns were only going to be done from the waste up as a way for the NFL to increase beer sales by keeping people from sneaking beer into the stadium.

TomKat expecting a baby
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051005/en_nm/cruise_dc LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Movie star Tom Cruise and his fiance, actress Katie Holmes, are expecting a baby six months into a whirlwind romance that has turned the once intensely private Cruise into a giddy and very public lover. News of the pregnancy was first reported by People magazine on Wednesday. A statement from Cruise's publicist, his sister Lee Anne DeVette, added: "Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited." Holmes, she said, "has never felt better." No wedding date for the couple has been set and no details about the sex of the baby or the due date were available. The baby would be Cruise's first biological child. He adopted two children with actress Nicole Kidman before their marriage ended in divorce in 2001. Twice-married Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 27, began dating in mid-April, but far from keeping their relationship low key, Cruise became the butt of jokes in May after his manic, couch-jumping appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" declaring his passion for his new girlfriend. He proposed to Holmes in June at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and announced their engagement the next day at a news conference. The high jinks prompted suspicion that their relationship was a publicity stunt to promote their summer films -- "War of the Worlds" for Cruise and "Batman Begins" for Holmes. Cruise rejected the jibes. "It's amusing at first. It's funny. But then you sit back and realize how sad it is that there are people who can't even imagine feeling like this. But my friends are happy for me. The people who know me are happy. My mom is happy. My family is happy," he said. Holmes made her name on the TV show "Dawson's Creek." She ended a five-year relationship with "American Pie" actor Chris Klein in early 2005. Cruise's first marriage, to actress Mimi Rogers, ended in divorce in 1990. After his divorce from Kidman, he had a two-year relationship with Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. Cruise is currently filming the upcoming action movie "Mission: Impossible III." Reuters/VNU

The value of acquiring a trade deadline pitcher
After spending much time at baseball-reference.com and retrosheet.com, I've found that since 1969, only one pitcher traded at the July trade deadline has won a World Series game for his team. That pitcher was Jim Clancy, who was traded on July 31, 1991 by the Houston Astros to the Atlanta Braves for Matt Turner and a player to be named later (minor leaguer Earl Sanders was later sent to the Astros to complete the trade). Clancy pitched the last 1/3 of the 12th inning in game 3 of the 1991 classic between the Braves and Twins. Clancy relieved Kent Mercker who had just struck out Kent Hrbek. Dan Gladden was on third and Chuck Knoblauch had just stolen second. Clancy intentionally walked Kirby Puckett to load the bases for pitcher Rick Aguilera who lined out to center to end the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Mark Lemke lined a single to left field off of Aguilera to score David Justice and win the ballgame for Atlanta, and thus making Jim Clancy the first and only pitcher since 1969 traded at the July trade deadline to win a World Series game. Graeme Lloyd won game 4 in 1996 for the Yankees against the Braves. Lloyd was traded after the non-waiver deadline in 1996 from the Brewers to the Yankees making him the only pitcher traded after the non-waiver deadline to win a World Series game since 1969.

Wily Mo Pena is amazing!
It's really cool when a player does very good during the game that they hand out bobbleheads of him. 802556[/snapback] How'd Ryan Dempster do in his Marlins bobblehead game?

Beinfest, please sign Danny Graves
My source with the Braves said that Graves signed a deal at 10:40 AM this morning, pending a physical. He said Graves is not going to the Braves, nor is he going to the Marlins, which leads me to believe that it is the New York Mets.
