Hank Goldberg says we dont have the 137 million

Featured Replies

Hank just said on WQAM that the Marlins dont have the money (137 million) and that the stadium deal will fall through unless something else happens according to his sources.

He's quoting Arriola, who is correct but its a matter of interpretation. That Marlins never said they had the $137 million on hand, in cash, but that they were willing to guarantee that amount over a specific period as rent.

That Marlins never said they had the $137 million on hand, in cash, but that they were willing to guarantee that amount over a specific period as rent. I thought that was always understood. From the first report, they never said that they would pay the $137 million up front.

MLB gave them a loan of $30 million when loria came over and that they lost $18 mill last year and that his sources say they cant come up with the money.

but what did he say in the first ten minutes of the show that warranted your post? I missed it too.

They just gave a sports update and they repeated what Hank had said....More specifically that the Marlins are balking at the deal b/c they cant come up with the $137 million and they the March 15 deadline is now negligible.

Hank is trying to spin anything he can to stop this ballpark. We all know they money would not be upfront.

I have my doubts now with what Hank is saying b/c he is saying that the stadium deal is one where the OB and the Marlins stadium would be built side-be-side which were the old plans - new plans was a stad with a roof and seperate from the OB

knowing the City of Miami officials, I wouldn't be surprised if the 137Millions is used as a scape goat to trash the deal

For some reason, I'm not optimistic. Thanks God, this is going to be over soon and we will know one way or the other.

exactly

we got a preview of this a few days ago from Arriola when first made this comment.

the fact is none of the parties were expected to contribute their portion before construction. this is supposed to be bonded out with each party making annual contributions to cover the debt service.

I guess i'm still unclear what exactly the report is. I'm listening now, and he's saying that the Marlins are balking at the deal. I haven't heard him say anything about them not having the $137 million but that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, because wasn't the $137 million from future revenue? Then he says that the plans don't make a whole lot of sense because the stadiums are connected. But weren't there supposedly new plans that have the stadiums side by side with the retractable roof?

Something about the report doesn't seem like it's all that newsworthy. Especially with 3 days until the deadline.

they don;t want to go to the orange bowl site for a myriad of reasons, the most important being theres no parking (and hence no parking revenue plus the city will place their favored vendors for concessions which is non-starter for the Fish.

funny thing, I was over in that area today and 836 was backed up (westbound) all the way to the bridge by the Herald building on the bay because of an accident out by the airport. I said to myself "this is never going to work". It was noonish, nevermind rush hour when games are played.

I understand all the reasons not to go there, but it doesn't seem like they have much of a choice at the moment. And if they don't want to go there, why did they even negotiate with the city about it?

Oh well, I guess we won't have to wait too much longer for answers.

Every ballpark built lately has debt payments.

Vendors would be something to negotiate over.

Access to the Orange Bowl and Downtown are both bad.

Any more issues?

Hank is not a reliable source of any sports news. Not even the Dolphins since he got into a fight with Wayne and lost most of his inside access.

The Marlins dont have $137 million, if I am correct they will pay it over 40 years if a stadium is built.

But he is saying that the Marlins won't pay it upfront like it was new deal-breaking information. Everyone knows it would be over time and the stadium would be financed.

Why is Hank trying to sway the public against the Marlins? There is no reason for it.

Mandich believes the deal will get done even though he doesn't agree with it.Before people start jumping on Mandich for hating the Fish, the reason why he doesn't agree is because no private business should receive public funds.

He expect some annoucement before monday. He says it has been too quiet and this is how Miami politician works.
