nc marlin
Gammons and Reynolds said second place with no wild card berth. But both said the team is dangerous.
Maxx
Yeah, it was a better prediction than I thought they'd give us. I think if we finish second in the NL East we will probably get that playoff spot.
Izzie
There's not gonna be any time to slack because there's a lot of dangerous teams now...Phillies, Cubs, Astros, Giants (if Bonds stays healthy), and even the Padres..so the Fish have to stay on top of their game
Wild Card
Giants (if Bonds stays healthy), and even the Padres.. The Isotopes could win the NL West. That division is peanuts. But I get your point, there will be no time to lose focus with the Astros and Cubs in the Central battling for the playoffs as well.
TSwift25
The NL Central has 2.5 legit playoff teams (I give the Cardinals half credit because their line-up is amazing, but their pitching is below average for that division). The NL West is weak, but the D-backs and Giants are in it as far as I'm concerned, and the NL East has us the Phils and the Braves (I'm not taking anything away from them until they start losing). Second place in any division other than the central may not be good enough for a playoff spot. We're going to have to own division play and the NL Central to have a chance at the wildcard. CapeFish
The NL Central didn't have one team since 1998 with a better record than the NL Wildcard. The reason is that in 1998 the Cubs were the Wildcard. The three teams that could win that division won't win more games than the second or even third place team in the NL East. Read my words! Not at this time-neither have first rate pitching...I'd say if we are competing 4 a wild card that Houston or Chicago would be the main threat. But, I still think we can win our division...IF WE GET A BULLPEN
Guest Juanky
The Padres have solid pitching. Wells will eat innings, and the combination of Lawrence-Peavy-Eaton is a nice one to have.

But one thing about the nl west this year, there one of a couple diviosons without a bad team.

QuickGold
Wildcard competition for the NL East is in the Central, not the West. The Dbacks lost Schilling and Johnson has more hernias than a geriatric center. It'll be close in the West, but relatively speaking, the NL East and Central will have the top records. As for ESPN's predicition, they're notorious for picking the "on paper team". Baseball changes and injuries and streaks are going to throw many predicitions out the window(except for Detroit, they'll be in last again )
bman8316
Gammons did say that we would go to the playoffs if Burnett is back before the All Star break.
