Classic Bands

Featured Replies

What are your favorites?

I personally like The Police, The Clash, ACDC, Pearl Jam, REM, among quite a few others.

Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton (and C.R.E.A.M.), Charlie Daniels Band, the Outlaws.

There are others too..they'll come to me.

The Ramones, Black Flag, the Misfits, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, G. Love and Special Sauce, They Might Be Giants, Flogging Molly, Stone Temple Pilots (I would say about two or three albums back, I don't like their new stuff), the Polyphonic Spree and Johnny Cash.

Gotta throw Steve Miller Band out there too.....if anything just for "The Joker"

I could I forget Johnny Cash! The man in black is way up there on my list of favorites.

Please don't tell me you like the Sid Vicious version of the Pistols?

Adds cool points to MizzesBeckets sum total.

Yeah, I hate Sid; he can't even play bass. Best part is when you hear the live albums and the bass is absent because he's not plugged in or so drunk or high the sound's turned down. Sid was a clever marketing ploy and nothing more.

The Beatles(Duh!), Aerosmith, The Police, and Pearl Jam

Couldn't we put Metallica on this list? If so, then Metallica :cool

Metallica has been around for a long time and made their mark on rock music, so I believe they should be considered a classic band. I like a lot of their music.

A great band, and one I forgot to mention, is Richard Cheese and the Lounge Against the Machine. I happened upon them by accident when I turned on the Carson Daly show (the Vegas edition) and they were the house band, and they were covering Fifty Cent's "In Da' Club." A great, great, great cover band, in fact, probably the best I've heard. They take classic or hit contemporary songs and lounge them out. I cannot recommend these cd's highly enough if you're into, or in some cases not, pop music. Plus, Richard Cheese is a good singer (he's cheesy, but that's the point) and there's a lot of artistry in covering those songs and making them their own. I recommend you check them out on Amazon, to get a small taste of what they're about.

Here's my list....

The Beatles

The Monkees

Journey

Aerosmith

Queen

The Doors

Guns n Roses

R.E.M.

U2 (not really classic but they've been together for a long time...so yea)

Nirvana (Would you consider them a classic? I do.)

The Police (Nice choice, Juanky. :thumbup )

Duran Duran

There's probably more. I just can't remember them all right now.

I guess I'll add Widespread Panic, b/c they got going in the 80s. Also, .38 Special, and Government Mule.

I guess you can include Nirvana as classic.

I also would say for me anyways I like classic Metallica. Anything post-S&M is caca in my book.

Geez, I thought you guys said classic. As in:

Hendrix

The Doors

Jefferson Airplane

Country Joe and The Fish

Beatles

Quicksilver

RedBone

Steppenwolf

CCR

and later...

Zeppelin

The Who

Skynyrd

CDB

AC/DC

Boston

Bob Seger

etc.....

Well, I define classic as somethig that's really, really good and will stand the test of time. To me most of the bands mentioned are classic. Nirvana's certainly a classic (I don't like them personally, but there's no reason not the include them). I don't think classic is defined by a certain length of time passing so much as the bands music being timeless.

Kiss=classic

Couldn't have put it better myself.
