March 27, 200422 yr benetiz and urbina are extremely similar. no need for both. rather have urbina If Benitez was a Marlin last year and Urbina was a Mariner, you'd rather have Benitez.
March 27, 200422 yr yea we are. And this might be a bad guess but i think its the bullpen.. note the small amount of sarcasm
March 27, 200422 yr Okay, Ramp says the Marlins FO has finally decided to lift their heads out of the sand and see what they can scrounge up that will pass for an MLB relief pitcher or three. Maybe if they spent less time honing Gerald Williams skills at staying above the Mendoza line and did something about this sooner, as several of you have pointed out last fall and before spring training started when there actually was a pool of competent pitchers, we wouldn't be looking at 2002 all over over again. I know the Marlins are trying to watch every penny this season because of all the stadium related costs they're running up but that $3 million they saved by keeping payroll artificially low just came home to roost. Now their money isn't going to help them because at this point there's no one left to "buy". Now they have to trade. Now they have to give to get. So who can you afford to trade without decimating the team? Easley's had a good ST, so has Cordero and he could start for a dozen teams. I still think the Marlins can afford to trade Alex Gonzalez and survive with Wilson Valdez, an opinion I know many will disagree with. I would have traded Sea Bass for Juan Cruz and another arm and thrown in Tejera for good measure, a deal I'm sure the Cubs would have made considering how mediocre they are SS, but that was before today. Tejera you couldn't trade for a used rosin bag after today's performance. The problem is if we trade Easley and/or Cordero we have just devastated our bench, unless you think Brian Banks and Gerald Williams can carry this team in September. My assumption is you aren't going to trade any of your starting pitching and AJ has little value right now. Benitez and Fox are secure, as is Pierre. Conine (the Marlins couldn't trade "Mr. Marlin" twice could they?), Cabs and Lowell aren't going anywhere. Unless you want to trade prospects for prospects which provides no immediate help the only choice the FO has is to start trading off their 25 man roster. I'm open to any ideas anyone has. Who would you trade?
March 27, 200422 yr Who says they can't be trying to sign a free agent or going to an independent team for a player.
March 27, 200422 yr Who says they can't be trying to sign a free agent or going to an independent team for a player. um... because there is nothing of major league quality out there right now.
