Well I went to the local Wal*Mart last night. I was wearing my Marlins cap, innocently pushing my cart around looking for some good groceries, when out of the next aisle comes a fellow in a Yankees hat.

I support a team in almost every sport (except soccer) and this has never happened to me before. This guy gave me the meanest glare the second I made eye contact with him. I averted my eyes, then looked back and he was still doing it. I went about my business as usual... proud as ever to be a Marlins fan.

Sour grapes anyone? :whistle

Does this happen to anyone else? LOL. Just that it was a funny encounter. :shifty

I got it from some Browns fans last year after we (Bengals) beat them. It ruled.

I don't glare at Browns fans...

I look down on them. :thumbup

Yankee's suck anyway.

I'm surprised that with all the Redskins (I'm one) fans and Cowboys fans we have in this area, there isn't some sort of epic battle... :mischief2

gangsta! :thumbup I'll tell you one thing, getting glared at (now) sure beats getting laughed at (pre-Marvin Lewis).

I went to Disney World earlier this month. There were tons of Marlins/Cubs fans all over the place. So, I decided to wear my Marlins shirt on our day at Epcot. I don't know how many glares I got from those Yankees/Cubs fans. It rocked. :lol

You have it easy. I work at Wal-Mart in a store FULL of Yankees and Cubs fans and still get a dirty look from them everytime I wear my Marlins hat. I've also had a few of them tell me that the Marlins were lucky and that they deserved to win the Championship more than the Marlins.

I just point to my championship hat, smile and walk away. :shifty

:thumbdown at those Yankees fans... "they deserved it more" my arse. :lol

The team that wins it deserves it and the Marlins played their hearts out. :thumbup

Exactly! I hate that crap when they say we were "lucky" and yada yada yada. I recently posted something up at another message board that is FILLED with Yankees fans and a couple of Cubs fans. They have been talking crap about us and I got tired of it, so I went off on them.

You know what though? People say we're a "bad" team and that we "suck" bla bla bla. Well, you know what? We're a 12 year old team and so far we have 2 Championships under our belt. We have such a low payroll and look how far we have gone. Us Marlins fans have gone through HELL! We have gone through even more s*** than Yankees fans. Back in '97, after we won our first WS, our team was completely dismanteled!! Right now, the future of our team staying in Miami is unknown. We want a new stadium and the state does not want to help us out. People don't believe in us. But we have shown them before that we play with heart and passion for the game. We don't care about the "bling bling"....we care about the game. Take Mike Lowell as an example. He took a paycut to stay with the Marlins, his home team (he's from Miami). He said it himself, he's not about the $$. I seriously think our guys have some of the best personalities in the game right now. After all we have gone through....to turn around and win the 2003 WS against the Yankees out of all teams, is a pretty amazing thing. You gotta admit it. Jealous people say that we were "lucky" to win. That's all bulls***. We won because we deserved it and we played our hearts out. s***, Miguel Cabrera....hit a homerun against ROGER CLEMENS....and that was in his rookie year at 20 years old! Then people have the nerve to say that we got "lucky"?

Sorry for my little rant, but I am just tired of other fans dissing my team and our fans when we have gone through so much for such a young team and all we do is keep on trying and trying.

Notice how many times I said the "s word". I was mad! :mad :

Thank God I've never pissed you off, Miri! But now I feel sorry for Maxx :confused

Nah, I treat Max very well. :)

What's funny is that after I posted that, they came crawling back to me apologizing and saying that they were "messing around".

Don't make her mad, for your own safety.

:angel_not

Don't make her mad, for your own safety.

:lol I'm guessing you had to learn that the hard way?

And I'm just messing with you Miri, I know your a Sweety :thumbup

doods... you should see the how many Puerto Rican Yankee fans live here...

They give me a glare... I point to my Marlins flag and tell em to shove it... :thumbup

happened to me twice....

1. at school a couple of days after the WS.....it was wear a hat to school day and i had a marlin cap and this kid who i have never seen in my life was wearing a yankee hat....he was staring at me the whole day.

and he kept following me.

so i go up to him and say what's your problem? I hate the marlins....little basterd.

2. i was going to the movies and was wearing a marlin shirt....i feel strange.....i was in the car by the way....and i look to my left and BOOM! THIS GUY WITH A YANKEE HAT IS STARING AT ME AND HAS HIS EYES LIKE BULGING....I FELT SCARED.

I'm such a jerk when it comes to this thing because all my friends would always give me a real real hard time about liking the marlins during the times after the World Series all the way up until the time the marlins made the playoffs. (I'm don't live in Miami area) So I feel no remorse giving people a hard time.

1. One of my favorite things to do is whenever I see anyone with a Cubs or Yankees hat, and I'm with a friend. This happened at Wal Mart a couple time actually. We were in line and a guy with a Yankees hat was behind me, and I was wearing my marlins hat. So I always go if its a Yankee fan really obnoxiously and loud talking to my friends. "So I was watching the marlins DVD again the other night. It was great seeing the Yankees suck so bad." And on and on. So far I've just gotten death glares from 3 or 4 people. And a few even took off their hat lol.

2. One of my friends big Yankee fan. Like 10 of us were watching game 7 of boston series. Boone hits walk off and he keeps yelling YANKS WIN THE SERIES YANKS WIN THE WORLD SERIES. MARLINS SUCK. So he gets tickets to Game 6 and sees the Marlins win the World Series :p . Lets say he hasnt heard the end of it since.

3. Franklin Street at UNC Chapel Hill is the biggest Halloween party of the year in this area. Like 60,000 people. So people were dressed up at Bartman. I went up to each of them sarcastically and thanked them and shook their hands because there would always be a Cubs fan around or they were a Cubs fan themselves. There were at least like 50 people dressed like that too.

So he gets tickets to Game 6 and sees the Marlins win the World Series . Lets say he hasnt heard the end of it since.

AHAHAHAHAA!!!!

:lolup Thats too good!!

  • 3 weeks later...

as a cardinal fan, I get it alot here from both Cub and Astro fans... (im halfway between StL & Chicago.......) Alot of my friends are cub fans...poor souls....they haven't seen the light yet, but I get alot of crap from them too....... :eyebrow

I get harassed every time I go to a Phillies game here. I almost got into a fight last year at the Vet because I made some posters that said: Marlins 2003 Wild Card...that pissed them off :lol

I usually go with other Marlin fans from my university, it's cool to be the only ones in the entire stadium screaming at the top of our lungs when the team does good.

It's because everyone else is busy booing

In that city, I'd be scared.

the absolute funniest is when the opposing fan doesn't know s*** about baseball

like this one girl in my first hour last semester (time during the world series) wouldn't shut up about the yankees "it's all about the yankees, they're the best team in the world, marlins got nothing on them" - it was annoying as hell. then this one boy asked her "name 3 players" and she was like "uhhh.....". OWNED!

and then when we won the world series, she was just like "oh they got lucky" you know, normal yankee BS

so yeah the only reason she liked the yanks is b/c she was from NY, so she had to "represent"...hah

she's my friend though

:cool
