Well isn't that what people around here have wanted all year? Conine at first and Nunez in LF... All I can say is Nunez better take advantage of these oppurtunities he is being given, he needs a couple of hits today

djm, you expect Nunez to get a couple of hits off of Johnson? Man you are rough. Nunez has played well this year, especially defensively. I expect him to bust out soon but not today. He has a good eye at the plate though.

It's kind of difficult to rate them because they're all different.

Conine = Good throwing arm, nice range.

Pierre = Weak throwing arm, great range.

Cabrera = Great throwing arm, good range.

@_@

Actually Pierre ranks averagely among starting centerfielders in zone rating (13th) and range factor (17). Conine is 6th among MLB leftfielders.

Speed does not translate into good range. It's how well you read balls coming off the bat.

throw Conine at CF, and see who performs better.

Doesn't change Pierre is an average-at-best centerfielder and Conine is one of the better leftfielders defensively.

Doesn't change Pierre is an average-at-best centerfielder and Conine is one of the better leftfielders defensively. Jeff Conine has never and will never be considered one of the better defensive guys in left field. He makes some good plays now and then, but who doesn't? Conine is average at best.

You can't just have a few good plays to rank that highly.

The reason why JP makes more highlight reel plays is because he reads flyballs badly and catches up to them just in time.

And the reason Conine makes those few good plays is because he's too slow to catch up to it in time to make the play securely.

If you're not going to take this seriously why bother.

Why take it seriously when you really have no arguement?

You do know that range factor is the amount of balls you get to, right? That's why it's called RANGE factor. So explain to me how Pierre being one with so great range can rank so low, while Conine can rank so high by being so slow and having no range?

Again, speed does not translate into range. It's how well you read balls coming off the bat. Knowing when and where to commit your first step to make the play.

The same for speed on the basepaths. The fastest player in the world isn't going to do sh*t if he doesn't get a good read from the pitcher and good jump.

It's actually a combination of the two, but speed is probably more important. Pierre gets some bad reads, but still makes the play. Even if Conine gets a good jump on the ball, it isn't guarenteed he gets to it.

In our spacious centerfield I'd agree, but that doesn't make Pierre a great defender. He's a mediocre one that uses speed to make up for it.

At corner outfield instincts are more important because bounces off the wall are much more frequent.

Oh, so his ability to make diving catches and leaping grabs come from being fast?

I never knew making 'Web Gems' out of what should be routine plays was so impressive.

You make it sound like Juan misplays EVERY SINGLE BALL. Sorry, that's not the case. Almost all of Pierre's web gems are legit, and I don't know who you think you are degrading them. Sorry, I didn't know it was routine to make a leaping catch over a 434-foot fence.
