Attendance

Featured Replies

As much as I would champion the construction of a new baseball stadium in the vicinity of PPS, today was a good example of why the Fish are seeking a more urban venue.

Fenway, Wrigley, the Phillies new joint, PAC Bell, they draw in part because they are in the core city.

apparently in a city as big as Miami, only 10k want to show up to watch the World Champs play.? I bet even those "sorry Atlanta fans" would put bigger #s up on a Monday afternoon.

Exactly. Its like you said, other teams have school and work too.

Of course everyone knows school and work is a factor. But you cant always be in denial. Im not here to throw the hammer down. Im one of the biggest advocates of keeping baseball here and am pretty sure the new stadium will fix everything. But Ive been defending baseball in S. Florida from non Marlin fans for a long time and Ive always pulled out the firesale/commitiment of ownership/trading away players stuff to defend things. But now I have to resort to school and work?

Again, I support baseball in S. Florida. Im just venting some frustrations. If we get that stadium built and S. Florida doesnt support a contender, itll really suck. ahhh, i remember the days when we defended the attendance on ESPN.com boards Fighting a losing battle on those boards...anyways attendance is what it is. I can't do anything about it so whatever. A Mon in may two years ago would have been 5,000 so Im happy

you can't expect more than 10k when there are only 7-8k season ticket holders. don't compare us with chicago day games because they are used to it and they have like 24k season ticket holder. same goes to san fran boston, etc. i was happy and shocked to see 40 k sunday, nonethe less 25k on saturday.

every other f*cking team that plays in the afternoon has fans that work and go to school too.

Yes, and maybe if the stadium was in Downtown Miami where people worked they could skip out on the last half of the day and go catch the game. But with the stadium up on the county line, it's a hassle to get out of Downtown, get all the way there, watch the game, then come back all the way down in massive traffic once you pass downtown to go pick up your kids coming out of school. Once the stadium is located in civilization you'll see more than 10k on a weekday matinee.

Us Broward County people are screwed, PPS is about a traffic free 25 minutes from where I live so it's easy to go to a lot of games. I will definitely have to cut back when they build the new stadium, but I guess it's worth it for the team.

OK, if there are so many Broward fans, why weren't they at the game yesterday?

I'm really sick and tired of the Broward/Palm Beach debate. You didn't put money up, stop complaining about it. We are paying for the damn thing, you aren't putting up a cent, we'll put it where we please.

Thanks Juanky. Dade paid, dade does what they want.

PS look at the other games yesterday. Montreal had 4,000 and toronto had 15,000 so its not like its not uncommon for day games to do poorly

Well we are better than the Expos and Blue Jays...so we should get a lot more fans....there are a lot of teams that are much worse than us and yet they still get a lot more fans than us...a lot more people should be more intrested in watching the Marlins play...

We don't get good crowds no matter what time it is on weekdays.

I went. If you didn't, stop your b***hing.

Cutter was an ass. Look at his precious Braves now.

If people really cared about the Marlins-they would still go to the game or atleast try.

Sheesh. I have no problem agreeing that since Dade put the money, Dade gets the stadium where they want. I want the new stadium for the Marlins and accept that I have to sacrifice the amount of games I go to. I just hope that putting the stadium in an urban area will attract more than the amount of attendees that will be lost by the new location.

Let's see..if more people skip out on work to go to a game, the odds are they won't have a job to return to sooner or later.. which means more time to go to more games and attendance climbs more! Woohoo! :lol

I went. If you didn't, stop your b***hing. Settle down there, Juanky. I didn't b***h about poor attendance on Monday or any day. I think we did pretty good considering the timing.

But its not only because I have school-but it also has to do with my school's hours. They are very long.

On Monday and Wednesday I get out at 6:21. And on Tuesday and Thursday I get out at 8:00.

If I didnt get out so late-I would go to those games that start very early like at 1.

I read back what you said, you are fine.

The rest of you three, why didn't you go to the game? Huh? Furman I know you aren't in Florida, but would you have gone to the game if you were home?

Thanks Juanky. Dade paid, dade does what they want.

Hypocritical much?

Any way to find out what the ratings for the broadcasts are? They must've gone up too.

I've been to five games this year, would've gone to more but I don't have a job and I always end up spending a lot of money on a decent seat, parking, water, etc so I just watch on TV what I don't go to. Did get treated to a founder's club seat on friday though, moved up to 2nd row from 3rd over the Marlins dugout. Expensive but so sweet! Practically that whole row was empty :confused

It's annoying how PPS, even when decently filled, always looks sorta empty due to the baseball/football switch.

If you want good seats for cheap check out the Fish Tank in sections 125-127. Six bucks a seat for non-plan holders, and the view is great. Plus you catch all the batting practice balls and you can talk to the outfielders.

I dont know if this has been posted but it was around 10k today. I didnt watch the game but is there a reason it was this low...lots of rain clouds? I mean the team is doing well and it coming off the world series title goodness sake. Ive been making excuses for S. Florida for a while but what else is there? I mean 10k...are we the Expos? Are there going to be 10k in the brand new stadium too?

Yeah i went to the game and it was so empty.

It was empty because it was a school/work day and most people cant make it at the time.

Does it bug you to watch the game from behind? I'm sorta anal about views because I really like to focus on what's going on, my usual seats are season tickets in section 146 (a smidge right of home plate). The price for fish tank is great though and I heard the atmosphere is a bit more lively? Sounds like fun, I may have to try that out. Hope I wasn't *too* spoiled by those founder's club seats..

It's tough because generally, if I want to go to a game, I'd have to go alone. They should have some kind of rent-a-Marlins-buddy program! ;)

They gave me a ball at BP once because it was mothers day and I was holding a flower. I'm not a mom, but good deal anyway!

I used to sit in the Founder's Club down the first base line all the time before I made the switch (mostly because I received those other seats for free and because I'm paying for these, but that is only one of the reasons).

In my opinion I like the view because you can tell balls and strikes once you get used to it plus I can see the whole field and see what all the fielders are doing, instead of concentrating on one spot. Plus I like that I don't have to turn my head all the time.

The atmosphere is definately much livelier in The Tank. Duh, because I'm there.
