June 4, 200323 yr I heard gary sheffield is a free agent after this season so if we can't go after vlad lets go after gary.gary has some real good numbers right now and is second in the national league in batting average so i think we should make a run for him.any thoughts? :whistle
June 4, 200323 yr I'm assuming If we sign Gary we won't have Mike anymore either, seeing as we can't afford both...
June 4, 200323 yr I don't see the Marlins dishing out the kind of money Gary will demand. I don't really want him back anyway.
June 5, 200323 yr We will get rid of pudge and bring back gary and keep lowell. It isn't as simple as just saying it. We don't have the money to have both. A) Keep Lowell B) Get Gary Pick one...
June 5, 200323 yr Why would Gary leave Atlanta? Yea seriously. They have the money to keep him, he has been there a little bit, he's settled. Why leave to a losing team for less money?
June 5, 200323 yr Which one, Sheff or Lowell? How bout I don't think we can afford either. Although if it were to happen I think we could make room for him if we had to. I wonder if Sheff could catch? Now there's a nice power hitting position we haven't had properly filled in awhile. :angry
June 5, 200323 yr I wonder if Sheff could catch? Now there's a nice power hitting position Since when was Catcher a Power hitting position... :mischief2 :shifty
June 5, 200323 yr I would prefer to go after Vladimir Guerrero. He is younger than Sheffield and probably doesn't cause as much trouble...
June 5, 200323 yr Where does everyone get the idea that were going to have extra money around to sign a big-name free agent. The reason the Marlins will have to get rid of some of the higher-salaried players on this team is because they wont be able to afford them, not to replace them with other higher-salaried players. Because of the one-year contracts and the players increased salaried through arbitration, the Marlins payroll would go up $10-20 million just to keep this team intact. Paring Lee or Lowell or Castillo, etc. would be an effort to get the payroll down to what Loria wants to spend. After that, there wont be all this extra money around.
June 5, 200323 yr Thank you Ross.... If this team decides to trade the big 3... Expect no big name free agent to even get a prank call from this organization in the offseason.
June 5, 200323 yr If this team decides to trade the big 3... Only 2/3 of the big three will be gone... I stand by that.
June 5, 200323 yr We arent going to go after Gary. He will sign Again with the braves. We cannot afford him. What happens if he turns out to be like CJ. I wont go after him if i were the Marlins....
June 5, 200323 yr Gary Sheffield has been a great offensive producer for over a decade. CJ has had one, maybe two good years as an offensive producer.
