May 29, 200422 yr Fox News Channel Not Allowed in Canada April 16 2004 Left-wing zealots always complain about censorship -- like the ones I censure after they try to wreck this website with regular barrages of obscene hate-filled emails and posts in their effort to silence good right-thinking conservatives who are threatening to the liberal world inasmuch as they have, you know, "values". It's a strangely censorish attitude for lefties to take, but then they're liberals and there's simply no explaining them. (Typical counter-argument from a liberal: "You're stupid!" End of argument.) Fox News Channel is banned in Canada by the left-wing zealots and Liberal government appointees who regulate what Canadians are allowed to watch using one of their favorite political tools, the state-run "CRTC" (which stands for the very typically Liberal government bureaucratic-sounding "Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission"). The CRTC is stacked with liberals. Duh. Most of the Canadian political institutions that control Canadian lives -- what they see, how they think, how they're taught -- are stacked by liberals. It may come as a surprise to Canadians that the TV they watch is only what the CRTC decides they will watch. It is not a free market. It is a fully state-regulated market. Unelected Canadian government bureaucrats decide what the people will see on TV, and what they will not be allowed to see. In response to their customers' demands, cable operators in Canada have tried unsuccessfully to be "allowed" to offer Fox News Channel to subscribers for a fee. But they have been refused. Cable companies cannot satisfy their customers' demand even by offering it to them for a fee. Again this week, as they have done unsuccessfully before, Canadian cable TV companies have filed an application with the CRTC to carry Fox News Channel, citing a growing demand from customers. Again the liberals will forbid it. Fox News Channel is seen by the left-wing liberals in the CRTC as "right-wing", and therefore a threat to the hitherto successful Liberal Party commercial otherwise known as the state-run taxpayer-funded media giant CBC, which regularly churns out pro-liberal, anti-American rhetoric, sometimes subtly, sometimes not. The hacks and Liberal Party supporters in the CRTC and the CBC feel threatened by conservative-thinking Canadians because they feel their jobs would be on the line if Canadians voted with common sense for a party that didn't believe quite so much in social engineering. CNN, the Cable News Network founded by Ted Turner who was formerly married to Jane Fonda the militant feminist and extreme left-wing liberal heroine, is decidedly not right-wing but is perfectly acceptable, as is BBC news, which is decidedly not right-wing to put it mildly. The CBC is left-wing to put it even more mildly. To put it less mildly, it is a left-wing joke. But because Fox News Channel is right-wing to their way of thinking (to my way of thinking it's just "normal"), Fox News Channel is banned in Canada. In a free market where Americans can switch to any channel they please including CNN and the BBC, Fox News Channel is America's most popular 24-hour news channel nation-wide. It gets higher ratings than CNN. Far more popular than the BBC. Let me reiterate: More Americans watch Fox News Channel than CNN in America. So why don't the social engineers in Canada allow Fox News Channel in Canada despite Canadians demanding it? It's no wonder Canadians are so liberal politically. Canadians have been bathed in left-wing liberal rhetoric daily, to the point where they see it as normal. Ask a fish "how's the water?" and the fish will say "what water?" Liberal-speak is churned out by the state-run media giant CBC on TV in many languages (8 aboriginal languages, French, and English) and on many channels, all for free even without cable (well, "free" inasmuch as it is taxpayer funded to the tune of billions upon billions of dollars); and all over the radio, and the internet. The dangerous so-called "right-wing views" as expressed by Fox News Channel are banned. So what do you think Canadians will become over time, but left-wing liberal voters? Most Canadians naturally now see Fox News Channel as right-wing -- or even "extreme" right-wing (code for "not liberal"), and so many don't care that Fox News isn't allowed in Canada. Yet they care a great deal when you dare speak up about being anti-abortion, or in favor of sending troops to Iraq, or, God help you, in favor of George Bush or "making a profit". To their credit, the liberal machine has been extremely effective. Of course, to their credit goes a good portion of my income, in order for them to brainwash me and forbid me to watch Fox News Channel. Unfortunately for them, conservatives have common sense. And word leaks out through private, unregulated (at least thus far) internet web sites such as this. Oh and also it's obvious. And it's embarrassing for Canadians. Note that if you repeat this line of thinking, liberals will dispute it all as "paranoia", and as "conspiracy theories" from "extreme right-wingers", then call you "stupid", and/or "fascist". If you're really making sense, they'll call you a "moron". -------------------- Joel Johannesen

May 29, 200422 yr Thank You for the info. I am always amazed at the lengths the liberals in this country,Canada,Europe etc. go to. Double standards are the norm for them. Probably will never change. We just need to be sure they do not ever push us to the point of no return.
May 29, 200422 yr Author When I had DirecTV, I watched the Newsworld International Channel to watch NHK (Japan) and their latest technology news, but breaking news caused it to be bumped by the crap that is the CBC and oh my god! You would think America is falling because the people here are so "stupid" that they cannot even riot right. This was during the last Cincy Riots a couple of years ago. When they had those riots in Ontario, I remember how it was reported by Fox, it was a civil disturbance incident in Toronto and no one was hurt, several arrested. The CBC treated the Cincy riots as a mass civil uprising against the oppresive police and mayor. No wonder they are so lost up there.
May 29, 200422 yr Just about the entire world is mostly Anti-America... And Fox News is extremly right-wing... they're against everything that starts with a D... they don't even say the word "Damn"...
May 29, 200422 yr Just about the entire world is mostly Anti-America... And Fox News is extremly right-wing... they're against everything that starts with a D... they don't even say the word "Damn"... Maybe so, but to just ban the channel is going WAY overboard....
May 29, 200422 yr We're talking about Canada, THe Holland of North America. I would be outraged if I lived in Canada because I can't see the funniest show on Tv, Hannity and Colmes. Censorship is bogus, I just hope the conservatives complaining are not the ones complaining about Howard Stern
May 29, 200422 yr Yet for the right its ok to tell Al Jazeera what to do. Look for hypocricy in your own backyard. Let the spin machine start... Censorship is bogus, I just hope the conservatives complaining are not the ones complaining about Howard Stern Of course many of them are. Its the old..as long it fits our self interest, then its useful hypocricy that spews from their mouths. Censorship is bad. I dont want Foxnews removed from the US. I just dont watch it.
May 29, 200422 yr Censorship is bogus, I just hope the conservatives complaining are not the ones complaining about Howard Stern Great point (even though i'm a conservative :lol ). I didn't like Howard Stern getting banned at all. I don't believe in censorship at all. It's called "freedom of speech" for a reason. Fact is, if you don't like it, just don't listen to or watch it, end of story. And I know people would argue Howard Stern is a bad influence on kids, but so if half the other stuff on TV and Radio, and people don't complain about all that.
May 29, 200422 yr Was this purely political or was the station just not very profitable? Cape, do you have a link on this?
May 29, 200422 yr Author Was this purely political or was the station just not very profitable? Cape, do you have a link on this? political. The cable companies in Canada have to apply for a license with the CTRC in order to do anything on TV. They applied, along with Rogers (owner of the Blue Jays, Rogers Cable, Rogers-AT&T Wireless and a friend of Mr. Murdoch) to get Fox News Channel into Canada citing customer demand for the channel to be available, even if a la carte. The CTRC said no saying it would interfere with the CBC. Yet, CNN, MSNBC, and the BBC are allowed in Canada http://www.proudtobecanadian.ca/threads/sh...sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Clear Channel made a business move to take him off the stations to remove the chance of being fined for indecency. Clear Channel is pushing it's Orlando based Monsters of the Midday (now of the Morning) to compete against Stern. Lex and Terry based out of Cox Radio Jacksonville is also another product that will compete against Stern. It was a programming choice, similar to the one that NBC made when it canned the reporter who went on Iraqi TV. Peter Arnet (sp) I believe is his name. CBS/Infiniti which owns the Stern show still airs it in many markets and is trying to get it cleared in the 8 markets CC dropped it. Stern was not censored. He is still on the air in all but 8 of his markets, where the affiliates owned by CC walked away from his show and let him become an available property. WQAM wanted to add Stern in the morning, but Stern is FM only, so you may see him go to Power 96 if Stern really wants to be on in Miami.

May 29, 200422 yr Author For those who complain about Stern being dumped by CC, Rush is banned by the CRTC in Canada. No Canadian licensed station is allowed to air the Rush Limbaugh Show by law. There is no law banning Stern.
May 29, 200422 yr I had no idea the Canadian government was controlling all their media to that extent. Why are the citizens letting that happen? Has it always been like that?
May 29, 200422 yr banning Stern from those Clear Channel stations was because of fines the FTC threatened on the Stern show largely (i.e. censorship) keep spinning yoru Republican agenda Cape
May 29, 200422 yr Author The Canadian Government controls three things totally: 1) Media 2) Health Care (There is no private health care system in Canada...legally) 3) Transportation (AirCanada is going belly up and guess who's gonna save it/but it?)
May 29, 200422 yr Author banning Stern from those Clear Channel stations was because of fines the FTC threatened on the Stern show largely (i.e. censorship) keep spinning yoru Republican agenda Cape The Federal Communications Commission not the Federal Trade Commission has the complete right under it's charter to fine or revoke licenses for indecent broadcasts. There is a difference between censorship of opinion and news and foul language and offensive topics. Howard Stern Show Taken Off Clear Channel Stations San Antonio, TX (February 25, 2004) ? Clear Channel Radio has suspended the broadcast of Viacom?s Howard Stern show, consistent with its Responsible Broadcasting Initiative announced earlier today. After assessing the content of yesterday?s Howard Stern show, Clear Channel worked with local market managers to take swift and decisive action. ?Clear Channel drew a line in the sand today with regard to protecting our listeners from indecent content and Howard Stern?s show blew right through it,? said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. ?It was vulgar, offensive, and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency. We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting,? Hogan said. http://www.clearchannel.com/Radio/PressRel...6_Rad_Stern.pdf Clear Channel made a programming move. If Das bought Talk Radio station KDAS (example) and wanted to change it from airing Rush Limbaugh to Air America, he has that right.
May 29, 200422 yr Author Back in the 50's KMOX Radio used to get fined because their color analyst during Cardinals games did not use proper English (yes there is a proper Baseball dictionary for the English language). The FCC is there to make sure the airwaves are not indecent, it used to be they would make sure they were correct, but with the advent of so many broadcasters and the evolution of the American form of the English language (now the proper English), the FCC gave up and did the technical and moral stuff. Neil Rogers used to get fined a bunch on WIOD and later WQAM by the Clinton FCC. No one bitched about it when he got kicked off the Paxson owned WIOD, but that was because it was a Clinton FCC fining WIOD. Keep spinning you Liberal agenda Das.
May 29, 200422 yr Keep spinning you Liberal agenda Das. Last time I checked the non-conservatives on this thread didnt support the censorship of Foxnews in Canada. When something you dont like is censored you drown it out as a business move(surface thinking) or an allowable exception to free speech, hence blatant spin. Yet when the conservative agenda driven baby get affected conservatives cry the lights out about hypocricy.
May 29, 200422 yr what am i spinning? i have not said one statement on censorship? i put FTC insteaod of FCC. thats it. sew me.
May 29, 200422 yr So I guess Disney and Mel Gibson's company both dropping Michael Moore's next film, Fahrenheit 911 has nothing to do with censorship by both those companies despite the fact it has been praised at The Cannes Festival and it's apparent box office draw? Cape, I'm sure you want that movie shown, whether any of you like to admit it or not, dropping that film is censorship because simply their is no risk here. It was a cheap movie to make, it's critically acclaimed and likely to win an Oscar, it's win/win for those companies yet they decide not to show it? I don't think The movie creating controversy is what their worried about(face it Clear Channel and all other outlets want Controversy like this or Howard Stern because it draws ratings, unless something outside it's controvery drove them to drop it). I have to think something else drove Gibson's company and Disney to drop this film and I think Censorship has something to do with it.
