I hate cocky ass players, specially when they don't back up their words on the field. IMO, you can brag as much as you want, as long as you go out there and perform up to the level you say you can. So far this season, Beckett hasn't, and while people keep talking about how good the World Series MVP is, in my book, Beckett hasn't proven s*** unless he carries that succes he had last year for a whole season, and that is yet to happen.

Calling the trainer a jackass is being an arrogant a**hole, as simple as that. Beckett knows how to take care of himself, and blaming his p***y ass injuries on the trainer seems like the most logical thing to do, now doesn't it?

It's sad to see how young players loose their mind with all the hype they get from the media. :thumbdown

I side with Beckett in this ordeal, and against AJ.

Josh has a right to be upset about going on the DL for a trivial matter, but he went about complaining in the wrong way. You don't blast anybody in the paper, plainly and simply.

As for AJ, the article said he is going to be going on 6 days rest for the first three starts, and Thursday happens to be 6 days from his last start. Shut up and play AJ...

Beckett is getting annoying though. He bitches and moans for everything. At first I thought he was just standing up for Jack and his team and everything. But then he calls our trainer a jackass in public, curses non-stop to the media, and acts like a 10 year old not getting what he wants. Let's go ahead and let him pitch with blisters on his fingers and get knocked around for 10 runs. Then we'll see who the jackass is. DL or not, he was gonna miss a few starts anyway and we can't have a roster spot with that guy not doing anything. Think about the team, Josh.

Here's McKeon's response to the tirades:

They are kids, World Series rings and all. Jack McKeon knows it and responds to each new situation the way any other seasoned citizen of 73 does when whippersnappers start whining.

For openers, he tells them who's boss. He tells them he's lived too long to worry about what anybody thinks about him. Oh, and most important of all, he tells them that the Marlins can get along just fine without them, for a day or a week or a year, if needed. You'd think A.J. would know that by now, having just spent 14 months on the sidelines while his teammates won it all, but boys will be boys. And managers, at least the good ones, will be managers.

When told Monday that Burnett was unhappy about getting his first return start Thursday on the road rather than Wednesday at home, McKeon said, "Too bad. He's pitching in New York. What's the difference where you pitch?"

"They get mad at you once in a while, but that's part of my job," McKeon once said of his decision to skip over Penny and send Carl Pavano out to start Game 6 of the NLCS at Wrigley Field. "My job is to get the best out of these guys and whatever method I have to use, I have to use it. I can't worry about it."

I'm still good with that, and Marlins fans should be, too. Jeff Torborg's biggest weakness was trying to be a pal to his players. Sometimes they took advantage of that, daring the manager to hurt their feelings and guessing that he probably wouldn't.

I love McKeon. He doesnt' take crap from our players. That's the way a manager should be. You're in charge, not the players.

good response by Jack in today's interview before the game. He basically said that players have to understand that they don't take the decisions, and those who take the decisions take them with the 25 player team on mind. Selfishness won't be tolerated, and that philosophy worked last year, so no changes are in sight....nice!

That's what I love about Jack. He did that to Penny and look how that turned out. I think Penny grew up an awful lot. Beckett shouldn't complain they are just being cautious with him. I would rather him be out 15 days than 2 months if the blister got much worse. Burnett will get over it. He wanted to start at home, its better that he isn't so the emotions are running too high because he would try to blow a fast ball by someone and it would be hit 450 feet.

Burnett isnt really whining. He just wanted to start on the 2nd but he said he doesnt matter starting at NY.

Beckett is the one whining, but it is kinda of tough that he gets back in the DL with the Blister problem. Thats probably why he is mad, because all this is happening again and he doesnt want to go back to the DL.

That doesn't justify the fact that he publicly criticized the organization, and insulted and humiliated the team physician.

Beckett just thought that the Physican was wrong by putting him on the DL so quick.

These two have the stuff, but the have no right to talk. Josh Beckett is a .500 career pitcher and AJ has won something like 20 something games in total for his career.

Maybe they should use that smack and actually perform on the field :thumbdown

I think AJ is just taking out some frustration. I understand what Jack is doing though... pitching at home could really mess AJ up, it's a mental thing.

AS for Beckett... calling your trainer a Jackass is so rude! That's just going too far.

Then Beckett said, "I have a big dick." The jerk from Texas looked over at veteran outfielder Gerald Williams. "It's even bigger than Gerald Williams' dick."
