June 3, 200422 yr No article yet just a breaking news headline on CNN.com. This is good news, Tenet has just made too many blunders and the CIA needs to be revamped.
June 3, 200422 yr You have to love politics....I couldn't help but smile when I saw that he stepped down for "personal reasons".
June 3, 200422 yr What do you think the backlash will be for the administration? Will Tenet start to badmouth Bush in the press?
June 4, 200422 yr Methinks Georgie might utilize this as an opportunity to appoint a highly moderate and Democrat-friendly candidate. It isn't a bad idea to lightly sprinkle members of the opposing party here and there, especially in a somewhat apoltical position at the CIA. It'll keep the partisan sniping from the Dems down a little when it comes to intel. Another part of me thinks that the new appointee may be a high profile up and comer in the GOP. After all, the GOP needs to start thinking about 2008 since Chney can't/won't run. Wouldn't be the first time an ex-CIA chief won the oval office.
June 4, 200422 yr doubt we'll see a book by Tenet bashing Bush out anytime soon, but it's still odd timing for him to quit. and chances are it's not for "personal reasons." bit from an article on Slate... All presidents learn quickly that spy chiefs are dangerous creatures if let loose or treated harshly. John F. Kennedy was held in constant check by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover's knowledge of his sexual peccadilloes. Lyndon B. Johnson kept Hoover on, telling a friend, "I'd rather have him inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in."

It is highly unlikely there will be an appointment prior to the election.
June 4, 200422 yr Author another person taking the fall for others screw ups. gotta love it. You think Tenet has been perfect in his job? The CIA has made quite a few intelligence blunders under him.
