June 7, 200422 yr this won't happen...beinfest is smarter than this, he wouldn't compromise the future of this franchise for four months with Beltran. I don't see any way on earth of a possible Marlin Beltran resigning with us, not with Penny, AJ and Pavano on the FA market. Second, why on hell would you trade Beltran and some of your best prospectcs for contreras??? Makes no sense whatsoever. If we did this, I would expect Kevin Brown or something, and even then I wouldn't be 100% sure of backing the idea. :thumbdown True very unlikely of us signing Carlos Beltran but to let you know the only guy hitting the Free Agency market from the three you mentioned is Carl Pavano the other two are up for arbitration.
June 7, 200422 yr if they do the first trade i would fire beinfest on the spot right there and give him a good :stare . i had thought of the grimsley deal a couple days ago and thought nothing else of it. since we have stokes is their a possibility we can trade choi?
June 7, 200422 yr Has anybody thought that maybe Contreras and somebody else is part of this deal? a Posada maybe :shifty remember the Yankess farm system is still strong in the lower levels. Also, I've always loved LHP Sean Henn and his 97mph fastball. A little note on tomorrow draft: The Expos have a deal in place to take Richie Robnett (CF) at Fresno St with the #13 pick. Actual rumor flying around the regionals out here... gotta love them Expos...
June 7, 200422 yr when they use the term "kicking around" they must mean, "when intoxicated and generally incoherent, the Marlins front office has had a hearty laugh about..." Seriously, thats one of the more ridiculous trade proposals I can ever remember seeing. The Babe for Grimsley makes sense. Its not very sexy though so maybe they just decided to throw the above referenced crap to the wall and see if it would stick.

June 7, 200422 yr Ed, you cant possibly expect anyone to think Jorge "The best all around catcher in baseball" Posada would be traded just so they can have another OFer. please.

That would make alot more sense. If we're talking about sending 3 prospects to KC for Beltran then moving Beltran to NY for Contreras, Posada, and a prospect. Ofcourse that would require the Yankees eating a ton of money. I might have to go for that since we'd be getting long term pieces rather than rentals.

June 7, 200422 yr Ed, you cant possibly expect anyone to think Jorge "The best all around catcher in baseball" Posada would be traded just so they can have another OFer. please. Don't underestimate the lustful wanton greed of the Yankees.

All I'm saying is anything is possible, Posada would not be out of the question. Remember the Marlins have what the Royals want, BUT do the Yankees have what the Marlins want? or do they go to the Red Sox for that :shifty How far does NY go to keep Beltran away from the sox?
June 7, 200422 yr Ed, Jorge Posada is a legit 4 stat hitter at the catcher position. no chance in hell.
June 7, 200422 yr You lose a lot of the upgrade you'd be getting from Beltran if you drop Posada. Then you have who catching? Flaherty? The Yankees aren't stupid.
June 7, 200422 yr could anyone imagine the marlins if payroll was increased 20 million dollars? yankees and their overpaid bastards...
June 7, 200422 yr then what is Beltran a number 8 hitter? just another all star OFer added to the crowded NY team. do you honestly think Steinbrenner would be happy with John Flaherty catching and batting 9th along with either Bernie Williams or hideki Matsui on the BENCH. it holds no ground, i understand your just tossing out ideas but im just setting u straight...

Understand...but I also understand that Beinfest is not stupid. What do the Yankees do for a catcher?...well I know KC will try like heck to move Benito. Anything is possible even Bernie if a crowded OF and someone has to be moved.
June 7, 200422 yr Understand...but I also understand that Beinfest is not stupid. What do the Yankees do for a catcher...well I know KC will try like heck to move Benito. Anything is possible I bid you a good day Ed. Enjoy the draft tomorrow...
June 7, 200422 yr I would deal for Beltran and take my chances not signing him next year. He would make our lineup instantly a top 3 in the NL. Beltran, Cabrera and Pierre would be a great OF. Damn the consequences of salaries. More people will just have to go to the games to offset that.
June 7, 200422 yr Wow how about we keep Beltran until the end of the season. Then we see if we can re-sign him or if not he goes. But Beltran could help us alot in LF or RF. Exactly Beltran > One RP

Exactly Beltran > One RP You can't compare the two. They come at extremely different prices. All of you who think we are getting Beltran need to come to your senses. Its not happening.
June 7, 200422 yr If there is a chance in hell that we can sign Beltran past this season then I am all for us getting him, even if it requires a couple of prospects. This team is covered in mostly every infield spot for the future...Choi will be here for a while, Castillo and Lowell have a long contract if the stadium holds up...Willingham in one or 2 years....
June 7, 200422 yr I in no way will allow this team to talk to Yankees at all unless we are ripping them a new one again (SEE: Lowell, Mike). If we trade for Beltran, the price we pay is for him to stay. End of discussion. Maybe we have a chance at the end of the season, maybe we don't, of resigning him. But if for some reason he is traded and becomes a Marlin, he is a Marlin until October at least, end of story. No arguments. On Earth, Grimsley is nice. Exactly, if we do a trade involving Beltran, we keep the guy as long as we can
