Posted June 27, 200420 yr Let's assign jobs now shall we and see where the active roster spots are being wasted. 5 Starters: Penny, Pavano, Willis, Burnett, and Tejera (until Beckett returns) 1 Closer: Benitez 2 Setup Men: Manzanillo and Oliver 6 Infielders: Lowell, Castillo, Gonzalez, Choi, Mordecai, and Easley 5 Outfielders: Conine, Cabrera, Pierre, Nu?ez, and Harris 2 Catchers: Redmond and Treanor This leaves 4 spots open for bullpen and bench depth guys: Borland, Koch, Howard, and Perisho are bullpen candidates. Elimiinate the weakest links which are Perisho (have Oliver from the left side) and Borland. Bring up Dillon and an outfielder to add some depth.
June 27, 200420 yr Author Under my plan we would have 5 starters and 5 bullpen guys. We don't need 7 right now, we need the depth on the bench,
June 27, 200420 yr Forget the bench. We don't have enought hitters in the starting lineup. I would like to get rid of nuisance called Lenny Harris.
June 27, 200420 yr bring up someone quick we need a guy like TB's Gathright who is fast as a motther who do we have in the system that is real fast?

June 27, 200420 yr STARTERS Choi Castillo Gonzalez Lowell Cabrera Pierre Conine Redmond BENCH CA Treanor IF Easley IF Mordecai 3B/OF Dillion A LF/RF'er 1B if Dillion is playing a capable OF A guy that can play CF STAFF Beckett Burnett Penny Pavano Willis Bullpen Benitez Koch Manzy Acquire a third guy to work setup with Koch and Manzy Oliver Wayne/Howard/Borland or whoever else
June 27, 200420 yr guys im sorry to say but Lenny Harris is far fromt he reason we are loosing....leave him alone....hes a lefty hitter off the bench which we could use...and its our starting hitting that needs work not the bench forget the bench....u think releasing lenny harris is gonna solve are problems??..hahaha
June 27, 200420 yr bring up someone quick we need a guy like TB's Gathright who is fast as a motther who do we have in the system that is real fast? Eric Reed is quick, but still a year or two from being ready.
June 27, 200420 yr Our Bench with RISP: Harris .105 Easley .172 Nunez .176 Mordecai .182 Treanor .400 This is a problem. There are some names out there that won't take a fortune to obtain or pay in salary that could be a nice fit and are not HUGE names. AVE With RISP Catchers: Toby Hall 15-40 .375 Dan Wilson 16-50 .320 Outfielders: Inge 14-44 .318 (catcher and OF) Mark Sweeney 11-31 .355 Reed Johnson 23-75 .307 Jose Cruz 17-57 .298
June 27, 200420 yr Cape, I'm guessing you're counting Harris as an outfielder because there was no option for 'defensive liability'. At the beginning of the year we look weakest at the bench. It was the only part of the team that appeared weaker compared to the 2003 opening day roster. The bench has been costing us games all year (mainly because Jack McKeon has been too willing to play them). From failing to step up late to running into outs to poor defense it's all contributed to the losses. Lenny Harris shouldn't have even made the team out of spring training, Wilson Valdez was hitting better and would have provided some sorely lacking speed and sure fielding. I say send down Harris, Perisho and Borland and calling up Dillon, Aguila and Wayne or Bump.

June 27, 200420 yr I doubt Lenny can be sent down. The Isotopes have been told to play Dillon in the outfield. So there's your outfielder. I said long ago that this team had a lot more problems than the BP. It seems like the players are always in a collective slump. If everyone remembers, the Marlins weren't hitting or winning in the beginning of last year. That's why Torborg and Co. were canned. They did keep the hitting coach which is something the FO may need to address. I know Robinson is a great guy but maybe a change in hitting coach would help. Maybe someone a little more aggressive. I really hate to say that because I think Bill Robinson is great guy. Has anyone noticed that this year, Jack McKeon is not his jovial self? What happened to "Let's have fun"? I hear he can be a real jerk! Maybe that's playing into some of this. Who knows? We really shouldn't complain...it's not like they're 10 games out of 1st place!!
June 27, 200420 yr Why is their all this hate around Matt Perisho? He is a lefty specialist and the person you shouldn't be liking at the moment is Jack for using Perisho as a setup guy.
