June 14, 200323 yr but why doesnt Miguel start to play in LF.... kind of disappointing to look at the minor league boxscores and seeing Cabs still on 3rd base
June 14, 200323 yr Well I am sure they are still keeping all options open, but it isn't a hard transition from 3B to LF at all, especially if you have the athleticism of Miguel...
June 14, 200323 yr if the Marlins are trying to cut payroll, why did they spend $10million on an aging, and recently injury plagued catcher? seems to me you could have stuck with your $320,000 back-ups and done just as well. seems you would have been able to sign Lowell, and Pierre and Burnett (is he at the end of his contract too?). IMO, you should keep those 3, Willis, and Looper. i see them as the core of your team, and are what should be built around. with that core, and if your GM is just slightly above average (BTW how's your farm system) you should be truly contending in the east again by 2005. maybe even next year depending on how much your owner cares.
June 14, 200323 yr Well I am sure they are still keeping all options open, but it isn't a hard transition from 3B to LF at all, especially if you have the athleticism of Miguel... Im not saying that Miguel is or isnt athletic but how would you know how easy it is to go from 3b to LF and how athletic he is?
June 14, 200323 yr I was originally myself a 3B converted LF (then converted from LF to C), so I know from personal experience. I know it doesn't mean much, and on travel teams it's a little easier to make a transition to a new position, but still...
June 14, 200323 yr Ravenlord his a starter. would still want something more than a prospect coming off injury for our best pitcher. Jim Bowden makes a lot of assenine deals, but i don't think he'd make that one unless forced too by Linder in order to cut some payroll, or to increase the "wiggle room" for gettting a real starting pitcher.
June 14, 200323 yr i was a first basemen that converted to left field and right field because of the accuracy of my arm (i'm left handed, otherwise they would have put me at third). they wanted me to play center, but i was simply too slow. from my experience, right field is the hardest of those positons. left field is the easiest. i had a fairly hard time adjusting from LF to RF. but my favorite position is still 1B (not likely to play it in college because i'm only 5'10")
June 14, 200323 yr Wow, we are REALLY alike! lol... The originally had me at third because of my arm and glove, but moved me to LF because someone had a better glove, but I had a much better arm... Then I was moved to catcher for the exact same reason as you were, or weren't I guess... We moved the old catcher, who had a little worse arm than me, to RF because he had MUCH more speed than me. They moved the old RF to LF, and me to catcher. Where I found out a week ago I have a time from home to second of 2.1 seconds...
June 14, 200323 yr yay but this still doesnt say Cabs can play LF.... although he already has 15 errors at 3rd....PUT HIM OUT THERE IN LF ALREADY...let the kid try
June 14, 200323 yr I agree with you... But remember when Alex led the league in errors? Don't let that stat fool you. I mean, Alex I honestly think will be right there with Edgar all year for the GG, and made all those errors trying to make plays that are immpossible to and messing them up, (but made the occasional throwing error...). I haven't gotten much of a look at Miguel's D, but that might be the same situation from what I hear. Plus, the kid has a cannon for an arm... Put him in LF and see what he can do...
June 14, 200323 yr The only possible reason they would continue to play Cabs at third is they plan to trade Mike Lowell. I sincerely hope that it doesn't happen, but when you have both the best 3B major leaguer and the best 3B minor leaguer and you don't switch the minor leaguer's position its a clear sign for me. Again I hope we sign Lowell very long term and move Cabs to the OF where we lack power and talent in both the ML's and minors.
June 14, 200323 yr Juan Encarnacion? Juan Pierre? Robert Stratton? We lack talent? Since...? But you're right, it would be nice to have him in that LF spot next season with Lowell at 3B...
June 14, 200323 yr You consider JP a top 10 outfielder? Juan E a top 10 outfielder? These guys arnt bad, but you would like to have some more depth in the minors at the OF spot. Who beyond Stratton, who is all or nothing, close to a complete player? We have some good positional players and good pitching in our system, but it does lack OF depth. Unless you show me proof otherwise.
June 14, 200323 yr You're right, it does lack depth. But you said talent. We have talent. We can develop top level infielders, we have seen over the years, but you nevere hear much about OF's that came up through us...
June 14, 200323 yr Then you were right... This organization has never been known for its OF's, but usually for rasing good pitchers and great IF's...
June 14, 200323 yr We havn't really raised much at all that we've brought through our system and thats playing for us currently. A-Gon and Luis are all I can think of. Our drafts have been mostly disasters. Most of players we have today were from the firesale trades, not players we drafted/signed and trained in our system.
June 14, 200323 yr Lee from the Padres, Lowell the Yanks, Preston and AJ from the Mets, Penny from the D-Backs, ect... I believe
June 14, 200323 yr Yep. But looks like soon some recent drafts will make themselves known in the form of Cabs and Stokes. :cool
June 15, 200323 yr Mike Lowell is not going to be a the 3b for the marlin after July. Wake up Josh stop dreaming Mike is going to be traded for sure. BTW: The marlins do Hermina minors. Another thing why dont the marlins switch Stokes to LF already?
June 15, 200323 yr Mike Lowell is not going to be a the 3b for the marlin after July. Wake up Josh stop dreaming Mike is going to be traded for sure. link?
June 15, 200323 yr Mike Lowell is not going to be a the 3b for the marlin after July. Wake up Josh stop dreaming Mike is going to be traded for sure. link? I just know he's gone the marlins cant afford him even if they trade Lee,Luis, and Penny.
June 15, 200323 yr Who will play 1B when Lee is traded Burnett? Adrian is struggling and Stokes is slow so he's fine at 1B.
