Posted July 9, 200420 yr I'm going back to Alaska between the 29th of July to the 25th of August...meaning that my precious time with all of you will be lessened. We will all be saddened by this, but I'll probably be at the local fairbanks library a lot and I'll drop in...I'll tell you what a Moose steak taste like when I get up there. Otherwise, you guys can rejoice in my absence. That's it for now.
July 9, 200420 yr Hey! I went to Alaska (Fairbanks, to be specific) two summers ago for a job I was doing. Fairbanks is not exciting in the least bit (except they have salmon bakes....a must...as salmon is one of the greatest fish to eat mmmmm...scratch that, THE BEST), but when I was there, I was able to take a day off work and I called the Alaska travel department or whatnot, and they set me up with a trip to Denali National Park. I took a bus there (it sucked being on a bus, but the scenery was awesome), and then got to ride a prop plane around Mt. McKinley and see glaciers and stuff. It was awesome. Took the Alaska Railroad back to Fairbanks. It was sweet. If I had more time, I would have ridden a plane into the Arctic Circle, and also gone to see the Pipelines. Got to see a moose. They're big. Alaska is awesome. The best part was that my per diem paid for the travelling on it's own. Took nothing out of my paycheck.
July 10, 200420 yr You do know the misquitos up there are thick enough in the summer to drive moose insane... 449030[/snapback] i was there in late july....they weren't half as bad as they are in Florida. Florida pwns int he mosquito department. It's our state bird.

July 10, 200420 yr they bite through shirts and stuff down here....people complain about skeeters in South Carolina when we're outside....and I dont even feel em....I come back home down here, and they cover you (big ones too).
July 10, 200420 yr Author This will be my second time in Alaska and I have already been to fairbanks and the whole seward-anchorage area. Fairbanks is totall dead north of it, but north pole is nice. I'm definately doing a lot of things at Denali and might take a plane up to barrow just to experience what the arctic circle is like. I want to visit the ANWR pipeline again, that should be sweet. Furthermore, I'll probably mooch at the local library and catch up on all the novels I have't read and baseball of course...
