Time to buy or.... or be sellers

With a starting pitcher market of Kris Benson and no one else, the marlins could trade Pavano on July 31st if they are sellers and get a lot for him from Boston or New York. Maybe we could land Halsey.

you are all crazy if you think the season is over

even though you cant continue to say "we are only 3.5 games out", we could be 5 games out and still be in this

how many games behind the phillies were we at this point for the WC?

anyone advising to sell off the team is just going insane because their life revolves around Marlins baseball

I'm drooling at the thought of the yanks and sox gettting into a bidding war if in fact we do drop out.

If the marlins are too far out on the trading deadline, the team should be sellers. Of course the season is not over now, but it could be the 31st. Even if the season is basically over on July 31st, it will be fun to watch a Pavano bidding war with the Sox/Yanks.

As a matter of fact, it's quite the opposite.

The thought of playing games in September that don't matter scares the hell out of you, so you want the Fish to do anything in order to keep living the pipe dream.

IF you make a mistake and don't beome sellers now the franchise pays the price for years to come.

bingo

Why sell?

Wait until Beckett is healthy and trade him to Texas for Teixeira and a reliever. Helps us, helps them. If Wayne or Bump can step up, it would keep us in the race and save us future headaches.

Sox and Yanks wouldn't have good enough farm systems, to land Pavano. Teams like the Angels and Dodgers on the other hand...

Halsey would be a good pick-up for Pavano. But I'm getting too far ahead. Fish are 3.5 back.

That's unlikely, but I would love to see my favorite player come to Florida.

so you disagree? 2.5 games can't be overcome in half a season?

what did you think last season when we were 10 games under? nobody would have though the marlins would win the WS

2.5 games back is something very minor, especially in a weak NL east division

I agree that if we continue to fall, we should sell, but after this team gets some rest and the ASB is over we might pick up where we left off last season

But, if you insist.....

Anyways, there is no way this small market club will "pay the price" if they fail to make these moves...big things shouldnt be expected after this season with penny and pavano possibly being gone

After this season we will most likely enter the "rebuilding" process

Why Beckett? You've got him locked up for another 2 or 3 years and we've seen what he can do when healthy. Penny or Pavano would be dealt if that deal were to happen.

Either at the end of the season or at the trading deadline that will probably happen, but they can probably compete in 2007 if not in 2006. By then Eric Reed will be the leadoff hitter, with about the same infield, except Josh Wilson at short. Willingham should be catcher. Heridia might be in the outfield by then, and I think Miguel will still be here. I'm not sure what the pitching staff will be.

which is why the next few years wont be fun

enjoy this season while it lasts

Because Beckett is never healthy for long. He's heading to arbitration soon and will be making just as much as Penny if not more.

And yes Choitotheworld, Texas is shopping Teixeira for pitching help. Are you from Baltimore or something?

the front office can live with 3-4 million. When the salaries get up to $7-$10 million is when we'll see the players leaving, but there would be no logical reason to give up on young pitchers with worlds of potential that aren't out of the team's price range.

Sure there is - when you can get a load of talent that can help you ALL YEAR long as opposed to just half the season.

I am not against trading Beckett at all - but only if we got some serious talent in return. I would trade him to the Pirates, for example, for Oliver Perez, Sean Burnett (two Burnetts on one team...) and Craig Wilson. That would be an excellent deal. But obviously, that will never happen.

Like you said that would never happen they probably wouldn't do Perez for Beckett straight up, but what I'm saying is it would make much more sense to trade a guy that you won't be able to afford next year opposed to a guy that will be on the team for at least another 2 or 3 years.

I don't think it is time to sell. We missed the chance, and rightfully so. We must hunker down and weather this storm. For the storm shall never outlast you.

time to go out and get Admin Walker, Carlos Beltran or Jason Kendall now

I am sick and tired of watching this offense not drive in runs

and if we get an OF I want Willy behind the plate, if we get Kendall I want Willy in LF

/end rant
