Time to buy or.... or be sellers

Featured Replies

I don't care if the front office thinks the team now is okay. The bullpen blew yet another game and the offense is still struggling. This team needs to upgrade to stay competitive, or it will fall below .500 and out of contention.

The marlins are basically about to fall out of the race. Why not start building for next year?

Yeah, but now the team is going to be at .500. If they drop under .500 with worst average with RISP and no setup man, they can no longer consider themselves "contenders".

Why dont you just go away. This is weak - the season is not even CLOSE to being over yet. And if you think the Mets and Braves, as is, have staying power, then you are just delusional.

Look, we have underperformed. And we are struggling. But it happens.

Marathon...not a sprint...

You should be ashamed of yourself - I smell a bandwagoner...

I think you're being a little harsh... :D Something needs to happen... Why call the guy a bandwagoner? He did suggest to start building for next year. A bandwagoner would have just flipped on 20/20 or UPN news... :thumbup

It's more than underperforming and struggling. This team is very, very far away from playing well consistently. There is no bullpen, no offense and sporadically good SP.

It's just too much to overcome. Too many prooblems in too many areas.

BUt the good news is that they are still a decent squad with alot of talent. I think you rape some contender for everything they have in exchange for Benitez and maybe deal another vet at the deadline, Use the 40 man roster time to really give all these kids a chance to develope in the show, them come back at them next year with a better club (and hopefully a new skipper.)

PS: Anyone that uses the term "bandwagon" is a complete jag.

Sure, we're only 2.5 games out, but to gain ground something is needed. The mets were below .500 and seemed to be out of it. Then they got Hidalgo and Leiter came off the DL.

They also got a new hitting coach.

That would help too.

The point I'm trying to make is that the marlins need to add more to the team, with the most desperate need in relief since Willingham will catch on and the rest of the offense will hopefully kick it up in the second half.

There are too many if-comes o make this happen.

THey need bullpen help.

The offense hopefully will come around.

THe starting pitching will hopefully get healthy

The starting pitching will hopefully play like they did last fall instead of how they have played the last 2+ years.

The kids they have called or will call up hopefully will produce immediately.

Just too many pie in the sky hopefullys and maybes. Instead of selling thier soul and getting a FA they should sell and add firepower and prosects for next year.

In '03 the marlins made moves to improve, they didn't sit around waiting for things to improve.

They were also on the rise. We may have the same record as last year at this time but we fell to it -- not rose to it.

We shouldn't sell as I said above, but I doubt we buy until we start putting together something positive.

No. This is fickle and has NOTHING to do with being an objective onlooker or even a fan with a sense of healthy criticism.

To come up and say that this team should sell off pieces and look towards next year SMELLS of bandwagonism (to coin a word).

Does this team need a few pieces - sure. But what team in the NL East doesnt? It isnt a question of what is missing but what is there. The fact is this team is STILL in contention all the while playing like merda.

Sure, the bullpen is not as good as we would like, but that isnt the total problem here. Tonight, and tonight only in a long while, did the bullpen fail. The starting pitching has not been consistent and that exposes the bullpen. But tonight, we saw Manzanillo fail. Oh well, it is baseball.

But to say that this team needs to hang it up is ridiculous.

Exactly. It is one game. Things can change in an instant in baseball. Just look at this game tonight. The Marlins need to hang in there and get through their struggles.

Why not go get Kim or Ryan for bullpen help? A good pen can help start something positive.

Unfortunately the Fish don't have the cash to sit there and see what happens. A decision has to be made, and soon.

And with this many problems the only right decision is to sell.

There's no point in selling now, but the deadline is pretty soon. If we're out of it this year then, it's better to start building for next year.

It's simple. Make some moves NOW or drop out of contention and become sellers. If anyone thinks we can do jack s*** with the team we have now you are sadly mistaken.

you can blame some of our losses on filthy bad luck

tonight for example, we would have been down anyways, but bump got a Met to hit a weak ground ball but it trickled through

Tonight's loss was the pen.

As of right now, I don't think we should sell, but by the way the team looks as of now, my best guess is that we will be sellers as the deadline nears closer. I don't want it to happen, but this team is miles away from being a quality team. If a deal were to have happened it should've happened a long time ago, it's getting to the point where it's almost too late.

On the bright side though if we do become sellers we could get a lot of value from Pavano and Benitez.

being down 1 run doesnt kill your confidence as much as being down by 3

Yep. We could set ourselves up nicely for the future.
