July 16, 200422 yr he just got cut by the Mariners, which means he can sign a new contract with anyone. he's 35, he's not hitting like he used to, but he could probably be had for cheap. would he make a good lefty option off of the bench for the Fish? what do you guys think?
July 16, 200422 yr id take him and release harris.....what was his numbers before he got cut ? 460690 yea id take him and release harris
July 16, 200422 yr Depends what's going on with Cordero. We've got enough guys on the roster who play first-base. And if we're going that route, I'd rather sign Galarraga instead of Olerud.
July 16, 200422 yr I honestly can't believe Seattle actually released him, but with Cordero coming back he just doesn't really fit
July 16, 200422 yr Author I honestly can't believe Seattle actually released him, but with Cordero coming back he just doesn't really fit 460787 check his numbers. he's been pretty bad. but then, so's their lineup now. who knows - a change of pace may be good for him. he's only 35. see Chad Fox last year.....
July 16, 200422 yr Andy Fox was released by the Expos a few days ago. Sign him instead despite his 4 hits in 43 ABs. He's the clubhouse guy we need and maybe all he needs is to be with some buds.

Fox is a better lefty option off our bench than anyone not named Dontrelle...sad as that is.
July 16, 200422 yr Sign Olerud to one of those odd contracts where if he doesnt do X then he must hose down Billy the Marlin or something
July 16, 200422 yr If he decides to continue to play baseball he'll probably sign for a team that will give a chance to atlast platoon at first base. All we can offer him is a spot on the bench and pinch-hitting duties. Beinfest should offer him that and try to top the offers with incentives and a team option for 2005. He's a better hitter than Lenny Harris. He knows the strike zone and plays first base better than Damion Easley. Cordero can still see time in the outfield.

July 16, 200422 yr What happens with his contract if we sign him? He was set to make like 8 mil this year. Do we have to pick some of that up?
July 16, 200422 yr I asked that question the other day, we sign him for the major league minimum which was 300k tlast year i dont know if it changed
July 17, 200422 yr Yeah Seattle released him so they were forced to pay the entire 8 mil I'm pretty sure

I'd like to get someone who can play in the outfield though...
July 17, 200422 yr Shouldn't the marlins learn from the mariners and release veterans who aren't producing:
July 17, 200422 yr Olerud was producing though. Seattle decided to clear room for rookies, and designate him for assignment (waivers, trade or release).
