July 22, 200422 yr Just an idea to get his bat in the lineup when Castillo returns.....he seems to be swinging a hot bat and usually does good when he starts .... what do u think ??
July 22, 200422 yr Miami 305, that's a great idea! We could let Conine platoon with Choi at 1st, or be a bat off the bench. then we could spend our time in the FA market looking for a catcher, and maybe some more bullpen help. :notworthy
July 22, 200422 yr Author i dont know how well he can play the outfield but it seems everytime he starts he goes 3 - 4 or 4- 5 with a couple rbi'....just a thought
July 22, 200422 yr Author but when castillo returns... i think it would be worth a try to start easley in left
July 22, 200422 yr Admin, i'm sorry dude....but Niner is so sad to watch...it pains me to see Mr. Marlin like this....He blew a lot of opportunities today to knock in runs...yet when no one is on, he doesnt....we really need to go elsewhere.
July 22, 200422 yr Conine, last 10 games: BA .229, 9ks only 3 walks's in 35 AB. Tonight: 1-4, 2 LOB, 2 Ks Easley, last 10 games: BA .333, 3 Ks, 2 walks in 21 AB Tonight: 3-4, rbi, and was robbed of a HR by Ledee's catch.
July 22, 200422 yr You know.. just because a guy is a baseball player does not mean he can play any position just like that. Dude is having enough problems with the infield positions he's supposed to know how to play.
July 22, 200422 yr everyone just assumes that you can throw him anywhere on the diamond, as long as he's in the lineup. Move to Cabrera to SS...yah he USED to play SS, but not anymore...he had to change positions in the minors. Throw so and so here. So and so there. Who knows if Easley can play LF.
July 22, 200422 yr Conine is NOT the problem. Conine batting 5TH is the problem! 469362 Amen. I agree. We don't have a better left-fielder than Conine. (And if we bring in 38 yr old over-the-hill Finley to replace Conine I will get sick.) Only decent OF who might be affordable and might be available is Danny Bautista. Speaking of X-Marlins, Greg Zaun is batting close to .300 with the Jays. (Duh... he was a gutsy back-up Catcher under glittering Charles Johnson.) We waste what we have, abuse our prospects, and dump on Pro's like Conine. When the ball is hit to Left, I know Conine will handle it. When the ball is hit to Right... I hold my breath. Yes, Conine should not be in the 5-hole. At least, not now. Hell, put Gonzo in there. He will either hit an HR or strike out on a down-and-away breaking ball. Or put Willingham in there to confuse the other team. Or buy Greg Zaun.
July 22, 200422 yr its sad watching conine swing poor guy lost all his bat speed......he needs to be our super-sub..... easliy isnt the answer though...I only want to see him playing Middle Infield
July 22, 200422 yr Zaun aint the answer, he had one hot month at that is the only reason why he has a decent .292 BA right now
July 22, 200422 yr conine is sad to watch. whoever said over the hill finley, i think he's got 23 jacks this year.
July 22, 200422 yr You cant blame only conine for last nights loss, no one else (aside from easley, and maybe choi who just missed one) did anything either
July 22, 200422 yr You cant blame only conine for last nights loss, no one else (aside from easley, and maybe choi who just missed one) did anything either 469904 Conine is always blamed for the losses around here. If he goes 2-4 with 2 singles and Lowell (or anyone in the lineup) goes 0-4 with 2 K's... Conine is the reason we lost if we lose.
July 22, 200422 yr Nobody's blaming Niner for the losses. But we have to do something to jump start the offense, and getting someone who is better with the bat, right now, than Conine might help. It could be Easley, or someone we pick up in a trade, but it needs to get done soon. :afro We'll still need to find an answer at catcher to have a chance of making the playoffs. But with a little more offense from LF (which is the spot to stick a palyer who can help with the bat since it's the easiest position in the OF to play) to go with a better catcher (from a trade or better offensive output and defense from Willy, Treanor, and Red or some combo of them) we are contenders. If we get that, and if Beckett gets healthy, and the bullpen situation comes around (with Manzy and Koch getting us to Benitez), we could go deep in the playoffs. :beer
