Walker now top target

Damn, that was low. Comparing any player to Lenny Harris. Save that for the Jose Oquendos and Midre Cummings of the world.

Losing Conine is not a big deal. Reality is we are a .500 team with Conine. Status Quo sucks. Conine has done very well in Coors, so it is a win win situation.

Let's face it, we are in desperation mode. We can't pay 3,000,000 for Lenny Harris Part II.

Yeah, but we're a sub .500 team with an outfield of Pierre Cabrera and Nunez or Willingham (assuming either of them stay). We can't give up everything for an injury risk. I'm not saying he's going to get hurt, he may be fine, but we have no depth as it is, to get Walker, we're going to have even less depth. If Conine has to leave, I don't think we should make the move.

By that logic you would want us to trade Mike Lowell, Miguel Cabrera, Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre because we are a .500 club with them too.

What next? Maybe we should trade Beckett, Burnett, Willis and Pavano because all they've gotten us is to .500 too.

Baseball is a "team" sport.

Think.

Maybe comparing him to Lenny is going a bit far. However, before the season everyone was looking for Lenny to be re-signed for the so called "club house leadership". Keeping a 3,000,000 bench player is even more folish.

We are going to have to take some chances, we have done it all year

You know that's not the logic. You are very smart 2003.

If you trade for a top OF (Finley/Walker) and Conine must be part of the deal, what you do? No? because most of you think Conine must retire as a Marlin?

Depth at outfield and the bench has been an issue all year, much more as McKeon likes to start a reserve five, six, seven times a week.

We need a bench. We play in the NL, we must have a better bat off the bench than Lenny F-ing Harris if we wish to be a over-.500 team.

hmm, I say our regular LF not putting decent numbers and our bullpen blowing ass has been a bigger issue.

In our ballpark and the amount of low-scoring contests we play, a bench and bullpen is very important.

So is taking an extra base every now again, you hear me JP and Cox, and well the entre team?

Blah, I'm not a fan of getting Admin Walker, or Finley really. Honestly I wouldn't mind a guy like Bautista, the cheapest to get, strengthens the bench and have him and Conine platoon. Walker is too big of a risk, I don't think Finley would want to come here.

Has anyone else noticed Conine is starting to get a little hot?

i like the idea of getting walker because we wouldnt be giving up the farm for a rental

our farm is getting worse and worse...trading it for a rental right now isnt the best idea

and to whoever said that right now this team is a .500 team you are incorrect

this team as it is now will finish the season at least 10 games over .500, i guarantee it (whether that is considered a .500 team is up to you)

It would be bitter-sweet for me cuz i will miss conine alot ( Favorite Marlin )

but will help out the fish....or it should....hope Walker has still got it....were not getting finley

Yes, Conine is getting a lot better. Batting .200 during July and .259 over the last 10 days.

or try...

He's batting .300 with two homers, two doubles and nine RBI over the last eight games.

hopefuly he can keep it up, no denying we need a hot Conine to make a run (unless we upgrade with adequate replacement)

If we trade Conine, we deal a big part of this team. Maybe not statistically but overall. I do not think we win the title without him.

I agree. I dont think Walker is a smart move at all unless you use him as our starting LF and Conine becomes our 4th OF. But that also would depend on how much money we would be paying Walker. I dont trust his health and I dont want to spend that much money on him. This move would put our team at great risk on several fronts.

And if anyone thinks trading Choi is a smart idea - you need to re-think your thinking. That would be ludicrous.

There are cheaper alternatives out there - we just need a 4th OF. I wish we could make a trade for Wily Mo Pena...or Lance Nix...

I'm personally not sold on Walker being the answer

Conine also has a better glove and game for PPS. Walker's health, salary, and performance don't warrant him coming here.

i wont miss conine when walker is tearing is up and stays healthy

You're a fool if you think it is that easy. Conine is hitting pretty well, in case you havent noticed. He is fine. There is no real reason to make a deal for Walker - he is old, too expensive, and along with all that injury-prone. If we are going to spend 12M next season on a 38 year old, injury prone OF, why didnt we just re-sign Fudge?

No, if you make a deal, make it to supplement what we have. Add a 4th OF - Finley would be a good fit here - but he would have to play all OF positions, which he doesnt want to do. I would rather us go out and get Bautista...
