All this talk about McKeon misusing pitchers is unfounded and is being used as a smoke screen to make excuses for poor outings by some of our other relievers, notably Bump.

 

Benitez and McKeon have a very open dialogue regarding Benitez' ability to pitch on any given night. Earlier in the season Mando told Jack he was tired and sat out for several games. On other occasions Mando called from the bullpen to let Jack know he was available for two innings.

 

The present situation is Mando was feeling discomfort, openly discussed it, got the MRI (which was negative) and is being rested until he feels better. Now just how can that be considered anything but a pragmatic approach to protecting the health of your closer?

I'm usually about as an anti-stat guy as you can find but having read Berardino's crap last night my instincts told me he was off base and I had to go see for myself.

I hope you take the time to email your findings to Mike B. He is normally receptive to this type of stuff. I'd be interested to see his response in this particular instance.
