560 WQAM dropping alot of sports

Featured Replies

As has been posted, the morning show is out and Howard Stern is going to WQAM. This will mean that from 6 am to 2 pm, WQAM will have no sports talk. They may also decide not to keep the other weekday sports shows.

Looks like the play-by-play stuff (until the contracts for each run out), Kaplan, and the weekend sports stuff are safe...for now.

So do we have ANY Sports talk now?

1400 The Fan. Mandich and Goldberg will stay on WQAM as of right now, but that could change. Can't wait to see where ESPN Radio lands, hopefully a nice signal like WAXY 790 so the Marlins can sign there next year. Either that or WIOD we come. I don't think WQAM will be able to keep the Marlins with this format. They might not be able to afford it as a talk station doesn't bill as well as a sports station.

it's not like any of the show are good anyways.

Yup, but there is only 1 sportsradio station now in Miami and that's 1400. :confused

I hope ESPN finally comes in and gets in gear. The only way they could get the Marlins is with a good signal and proven ratings by the end of the winter books.

Are they still doing their previous contests, like Thursday Giveaways?

485780

No word, likely you will see other contests.

WQAM ratings will be HIGHER than ever now.

485791

But what about their billing? If they can't charge more for ads to cover the cost of paying to carry Stern, I doubt they can pay to keep Marlins, who are the radio free agent at years end.

WQAM is going to be paying huge rights fees for Stern, but hopefully they can recoup in raising ad rates enough. I doubt they can keep the Marlins next year unless they find a pot of gold somewhere.
