I said this earlier...that the key to this trade working was if Valdez turned out and played well....he's done that tonite...granted it's definitely just one night...but if he can keep this up, it will be key. The biggest blow to our team from the trade was our starting pitching w/the loss of Penny...if Valdez can continue to pitch well, it will soften that blow.

Keep it up, big guy!

Does anyone know why they pulled him? He was only at 85 pitches. I would have liked to have seen him go another inning.

does he have blister problems? Were they just playing it safe?

Oh yeah, that may be the case.

Valdez is a starter, who also pitches bullpen innings and his stamina isn't good enough to risk him getting more innings.

or the fact that he hasn't pitched in a game in 9 days.

What does stamina mean Fran?

damn Cape...are you just blindly trying to start an argument? We don't know the reason...and won't know until a Marlin tells us....it's just suggestions as to why

No, just stating the point that Fran missed. Valdez hasn't gone really deep in games like this because of his stamina. Why risk it? Stick the bullpen in there for the 7-8-9th innings and be done with it.

I don't care what kinda stamina he has, if he had been on his regular schedule cruising the way he was he would've pitched the 7th inning.

Great outing, but he needs to pitch well the rest of the way not go Tommy Phelps on us

out of curiosity what kind of deal does he have free agent after next year?

Ish > Oliver, Bump, Wayne, Tejera combined.

it's only one start. I mean, Oliver got a win in his 1st start....Phelps pitched great his first start....it's gotta be consistent...

I hope he can stay consistent. You can't expect him to get a shutout everygame, but the effort was nice.
