1st week of school

Featured Replies

I start two weeks from now, first week is great after that megs. But this year is going to kick ass and I get to be with my friends the entire day(smaller classes). However my school loves to prove why it's a prep school this year more than any other year. Plus my parents are expecing a lot out of me and I expect a lot of out of me but I'm going to enjoy this year.

For some reason their's nothing like school during the fall, it's always when we have the most fun with some of the parties and hijinks(lame word)

Man do I miss being able to go anywhere for Lunch in HS. Was only able to do that in 9th grade and then the school made it closed campus. f***ers.

My week's gone better. Meeting some new people etc. The last two days were better since it wasnt that bull crap of rules and explaning the class.

you people complain about closed campus for lunch?

you goto school for an education...not for social hour.

eat lunch in the damn cafeteria or bring you own.

damn.....who really cares.

i think open campuses during the school day during HS are stupid.

but the college life is awesome.

My school is different though Das. I am smack dab in the middle of downtown Miami and we are the only school without a cafeteria in Dade...

New World=College basically just at a high school level.

Comparing that kind of thing to college is kind of a stretch

don't worry about it....when we start our summer and Joe Schmo is still in school, then it's our turn.

I have an a closed campus but we have a lot more individual freedom than most schools. After you get initiated by the seniors in ninth you can go out to eat for lunch on town. I usually stay inside but we're able to play wall ball in the court yard/amphitheatre(or how ever you sepll that) for most of the year.

My school has the Galley (every room in the school has nautical names or numbers, we are the Mariner Tritons after all) which is seperated in 4 quadrants. The seniors have the NE quadrant (you must know directions and how to use a compass at Mariner) and no one can enter unless they are a Senior. They decorate it how they please. The other 3 quadrants are open seating. We also have two exterior patios that are open seating. We have a Teacher's Galley with its own line. Everyone else uses the other 7 lines to get food. We have vending machines and of course once done you can stroll the main courtyard.

We have no Freshman initiation at Mariner. In fact last year's Seniors tried to tell the Freshmen to go home at a Pep Rally and the Freshmen ended up getting almost all the Senior priorities for Pep Rallies for the rest of the year.

A message from Our Captain...

Mr. Joseph Roles Jr.

Welcome back to those Tritons who were here last year, and welcome aboard to all of our new Tritons. Eleanor Roosevelt is quoted as saying, ?The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams?. This year the challenge for all will be to ?Live Your Possibilities?. Pursue success, however you define it; show confidence, to determine your own course; have courage, to take risk; find the spirit, to be yourself; and live your possibilities. Try to remember that your time in school goes by so quickly that you don?t want to waste a moment of it. Take an active role in the various aspects of school life. Don?t be a spectator, but be a participant! You are the steam that will keep this ship afloat.

Mariner High School is steeped with tradition. Tritons have certain expectations that we must all live up to. It is my sincere wish for you that you would become part of that tradition. A winning attitude, a sense of pride, and the closeness of family are the qualities of a Triton. Students working with students, students working with teachers, teachers working with parents, and parents working with the school will give Mariner High School the vital force it needs to be successful and continue with tradition.

Good luck for 2003-2004, and I look forward to working with you, Mr. Joseph Roles, Principal

If you are anticipating a move to Southwest Florida and have high school age children, let me suggest you look at our area of the state, especially Mariner High School.

Our campus facility is sixteen years old and has won several national architectural awards. You have never seen a more beautiful setting for a high school.

In addition, Mariner High School has one of the lowest dropout rates in the State of Florida. Our students consistently score at or above the state norm on all standardized tests. Academically, we offer a very unique and diversified curriculum that will challenge any student.

If your son or daughter is interested in athletics, look no further! We take great pride in the fact that our athletic programs rank among the best and strive to embody the spirit of athletic competition. All students are welcome to get involved in our athletic programs whether it's through personal participation, cheering for your favorite team or by showing your school spirit!

The Fine and Performing Arts are alive and well at Mariner. The visual arts program is respected regionally, statewide, and nationally. They've coveted 10 Congressional Art Award winners and have artwork on display in our nation's capital. The performing arts features full-time band, choral, and drama instructors. These programs have gained all-state recognition and exhibit unique perspectives into the performing arts. Our Silver Magic Marching Band has been State Champions 2 years in a row and our Color Guard is currently ranked in the "Top 3" in the nation and will participate at Nationals in April of 2004.

The Law Team ranks among the best every year. Our law studies classes are taught in a room that has been renovated to look like a true courtroom. The courtroom set from the movie "Just Cause" was donated to Mariner and this brings a very life-like atmosphere to our classroom trial reenactments.

We could go on and on, but hopefully you get the picture...

This is the place to be!

the 1st week overall was pretty good

it was really boring at first to have to listen to the same "these are the rules" BS over and over again but as I started meeting the people in my classes and stuff, it's been fun

and this semester, my schedule is relatively easy so it's all gravy

519765

oh same thing with me, my biology teacher treats us like kindergarteners repeating the rules over and over...she kept asking "who can give me an example of being respectful" or "give me an example of being on task or off task" i was falling asleep lol

519790

Hey whats your name? What school you go to?

My first week of school was good! I missed Thursday due to lack of sleep, but I had fun at school this week! Plus the guy that I like is in all but 1 of my classes... soo it ALLL GOOD! lol :lol . My school is kinda small so I basically know everyone in my classes. Senior year is gonna be GOOD!!! :D
