I like encarnacion, i think we should keep him next year....he's just in a bad slump since his shoulder injury....he'll be beack to his old self next year.
August 22, 200421 yr the problem with him is that he falls behind the count most of the time. Tonight against the Padres he started 3 at bats 0-2 and the fourth at bat 0-1 and he grounded out. check out tomorrow how many times he gets behind and even how many times he starts 0-2. sometimes i get mad at him but then again his Defensive is so good that you cant stay mad at him and i'll take him over any other shortstop in the NL.

But its what he does with the following pitch...if Luiy or Jp could only teach him plate dicipline...
August 22, 200421 yr If you wish to see Sea Bass advance at the plate...you must get a better hitting coach.
August 22, 200421 yr If you wish to see Sea Bass advance at the plate...you must get a better hitting coach. 522076 Alex Gonzalez has had several hitting coaches and none have fixed it. You have requested the removal of Bill Robinson on many occasions when I have passed through this website. There is no just reason to remove Mr. Robinson. Leads me to believe you only want him fired because of the color of his skin. Is this accurate?

Is this accurate? 522108 Robinson needs to be fired because he has not improved any of our hitters vastly while being here. His wife has done more to help our hitters improve than Bill! She, while watching TV, noticed Alex had something wrong in his swing and told Bill which was fixed earlier this season. How the hell could he not notice such a gaping thing as him opening up on his swings too much? Robinson may have won as a coach, but he inspires no confidence in me or many on this board. Go take your race card and play it somewhere else, because I wanted Torborg and the pitching coach gone last year and Robinson should have been gone too.
August 22, 200421 yr Author I dont know if Robinson is the problem... And how do you know about Robinsons wife and Gonzo?
August 22, 200421 yr I dont know if Robinson is the problem... And how do you know about Robinsons wife and Gonzo? 522130 It was on Marlins On Deck. Robinson was asked about it by Minervini. I believe it was Gonzalez.
August 22, 200421 yr Could have been Cabs, but I think it was Alex that she saw the swinging flaw in. It has been a while, the point is she caught it taking a casual glance at a game on TV while Bill Robinson couldn't do it and that is his job!
August 22, 200421 yr Plus, without gonzalez, we probably wouldnt have won a world championship. Remember a GW home run in the WS? Or an amazing play at the plate in game six? yeah... 522034 I know if it weren't for that .161 BA and that .175 OBP and 6 RBI in 62 ABs in October who knows if we would have won.
August 22, 200421 yr Thank You. His defense makes up for his offense IMO. 521973 The fact is that his defense does not make up for his offense regardless of your opinion. The answer to whether his good defense makes up for his poor offense is not subjective. Statistically his defense does not make up for it. Offensively, he has created 13 less runs than the average NL shortstop (using the RC statistic on ESPN). The RC27 statistic, which is the number of runs a team would score if they were composed of 9 of the same hitter in this case Gonzalez, is more telling because Gonzalez happens to have played more games than most of the shortstops in the NL. A team of Agons would score over a run less per game (4.63 to 3.59 which is a difference of 1.04) than a team of the average NL shortstop. Defensively, Agon's Fielding percentage is .978 and the league average is .976, so there is no real difference there. Agon, however, does get to about 3.4% more balls hit in the zone of the shortstop, which means he has about 3.4% better range than the average shortstop. (this is using the Zone Rating statistic, which is the percentage of balls in play in a player's "zone" that the player gets to.) This translates to his getting to about 13 more balls up to this point in the season than the average shortstop. The only way he could possibly be better than the average shortstop is if those 13 extra balls he gets to all prevent at least 1 run, which is unrealistic. Or even more telling, he would need that 3.4% better range, or 13 more outs over 115 plus games, to account for over a run per game just to be an AVERAGE shortstop. In other words, that extra .11 outs that he gets per game has to save his team a run per game to be average, which is highly unrealistic. AGon is a below average NL shortstop. And that is not even comparing him to the AL shortstops who generally hit better.
August 22, 200421 yr The only way he could possibly be better than the average shortstop is if those 13 extra balls he gets to all prevent at least 1 run, which is unrealistic. But we'll never know will we? why? Because he actually DOES get to every god damn ball thats hit in his DOMAIN. This happens often to Alex we see him really struggle at the plate most of the times, and have some really crappy at bats. but he has a stellar glove. but in the end lets not forget that he's on pace for the same if not better numbers than he had last year. some where around .250 - 15-20hr's - 75-80 rbi's. for a number eight hitter with his defense, ill take that any day of the week.

Look everyone has players they don't like, hell I don't like Encarnacion, not one bit. But everytime he comes to bat I am his biggest fan, cause I love this team and I want them to succeed. Same with Gonzo, I don't really hate him, but he probably makes more upset each game than any other Marlin. That a part of this game, he is our starting shortstop and a helluva shortstop at that, nothing we can do by CONSTANTLY bitching about his poor plate dicipline. NOTHING, but even with that, he has had a very productive season offensively, if he is going to have a low BA at least he hits HR's and drives in Runners. So show all the stats you want, but ignoring his 2 strongest STATS offensively, is obviously HATING on the guy. Give it a REST!

AGon is a bad ass defensively. I dont care whatever you say. I do believe his defense makes up for his offense. Stats like that dont mean crap to me. The guy is just a natural playing SS. Probaly the best defensively now in the NL. Maybe even the AL.

August 22, 200421 yr Alex is an awesome SS. Even though hes not consistent he can come up with some big hits when we need them. And hes an above average Defensive player. Cmon what else do you want from an 8th batter. 17 homers 60+ rbis is awesome for a 8th batter. I bet no teams 8th batter is batting better than Sea Bass.
