Bob Costas calling Cubs games on WGN?

Featured Replies

Hell hath in deed frozen over if this happens. The Tribune Company (owner of the Cubs and WGN-TV) is in negotiations with current lead announcer Chip Caray, but it isn't too promising as nothing has come to be after 6 months of negotiations. If Caray does leave (probably returning to Florida and working on Gator games on Sunshine or some similar capacity) it has been rumored that Bob Costas, a native of Saint Louis and big Cards fan, could be picked as the next lead announcer for the Chicago Cubs on WGN-TV and the new Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

Stay tuned...

Apparently Chip doesn't make the Cubs look good (aka inflated) enough for management's tastes.

Chip Caray should go back to calling Magic games. :cool

:whistle Likely to happen Fran...Magic Broadcasting has been hit very hard.

Costas is an amazing announcer, it would be disappointing to hear him as a 'Cubs homer' type announcer.

I beg the differ, I think Costas is an a$$

Does anyone remember the disappointment in his voice when the Marlins won the World Series in 1997, I never saw a World Series that the announcer was so anti one of the teams

when i see ESPN Classic and they have game 7 during the ninth he was paying tribute to all the great players the indians had and all the hard work the franchise had put into the team the last couple of years (all bulls*** sucking up), and then.............................

mr. craig counsell hit that fly ball to deep right. :lol :lol :lol i still think he's great announcer. to bad he has to go to CHC. costas is just one of those guys who isn't fond of the expansion teams. SEE: JOE BUCK, he said in an article that he hates teams named after siblings (twins), blue birds (jays), snakes, and mountain ranges.

Bob Costas is a great play-by-play man, no doubt about it, but he's just too "general" if that makes any sense.

how much more does the tribune company want chip caray to stroke the cubbie ego?

Till the sausage falls off...I mean wheels.

Maybe Chip is too impartial for them

He isn't really but I have to give it to him, he is a very fair announcer. Gives credit where credit is due. I even heard him praise the Marlins endlessly in a Cubs-Braves game :lol

Maybe it wasn't so much disappointment as it was shock.

Well the Indians were about to win the World Series, do you want him to say, "wow this team is terrible yet are a couple outs away from winning the world series. The Marlins are the greatest ever!!!"

They want him to be like the White Sox's announcers I would guess
