September 5, 200422 yr :lol I was at hooters for dinner today and watching one of the games when I see on the bottom line ticker that Furman was down 28-0 at the half. I was in shock, but then I came home and saw it was wrong. It was entertaining at the time
September 5, 200422 yr LSU wins by 1 in overtime. Poor kid for Oregon State missed like 3 extra points and a field goal.

September 5, 200422 yr Northern Illinois suffered a heartbreaking 23-20 defeat at #20 ranked Maryland today. NIU had the ball at the Maryland 33, but the refs decided to take 8 seconds to place the ball, and by the time we threw it incomplete time ran out. Ah well, i'm not bitter, we were outplayed, and considering all the factors, such as this being a revenge game for Maryland, who lost 20-13 in OT at DeKalb in the season opener last year, we played TERRIBLE, NIU's starting QB only played 3 plays, and the fact that we had to play on the road, i'm proud of NIU's effort..... The rest of our schedule is favorable, so i'm excited to see how the rest of the season goes.
September 5, 200422 yr I am content with the Buckeyes performance today. Zwick showed flashes, he's gonna be a good one. We threw the ball 29 times! [/amazing] We rolled up almost 500 yards. Next: Marshall...who lost to Troy State today. This is the "Will The Be Fights?" game after OSU DE Redgie Arden was jumped by 3 Marshall football players a couple weeks ago in Huntington. Arden's a fool for being there, but this is gonna be interesting.
September 5, 200422 yr Furman wins 52-7. Backups played pretty much most of the 3rd quarter, and 3rd stringers got in the 4th. Woulda shut em out if the starters had stayed in. Next stop: Birmingham next Saturday to beat Samford.

If it isn't your running back, it's your freshman QB, if not him your D-line. How did you not end up in a bowl game last year? Conference tie-ins? Atleast the Terps' new secondary sounded solid for the most part and the running game is unstoppable. Was it on TV in Chicagoland? It's being shown on tape delay in the DC area Monday. Good luck with the rest of the season.

September 5, 200422 yr Local community college by me dropped their football program. Shame, I remember going to games during middle school and high school. Budget Challenges Lead to Montgomery College's Discontinuation of Football In the face of severe budget restraints and overall budget tightening, Montgomery College officials announced today that the College will be discontinuing its Rockville Campus football program. "In a time of increasing budget constraints, the College has decided that it cannot afford to allocate additional resources that would be needed to continue the program's present quality," said Rockville Campus Provost Dr. Mary Kay Shartle-Galotto. She noted that Montgomery College has been, for more than a decade, the only community college in Maryland and Western Pennsylvania to field a football team; others dropped the sport in the 1980s. Across the country, 71 of 503 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) schools fielded football teams this past season. (The NJCAA does not include California community colleges). The Montgomery College team's isolation resulted in increased costs for travel, which this year included trips to Lackawanna, Pennsylvania and Morrisville, New York. ""Providing uniforms, equipment, and other necessities also was becoming more expensive," said Dr. Mary Ann Beatty, Rockville Campus dean of student development. Dr. Beatty also noted that the football program, which formally attracted large numbers Montgomery College students, now is made up primarily of those who come from out of county and out of state. According to an official College history, MC football began in 1947, one year after the school was founded. Legend has it that the original team wore uniforms donated by the Washington Redskins and since that time, the Knight's colors have been burgundy and gold. The 1947 season's 8-2 record set a winning tone that was carried forward through the years, especially under the direction of current coach Phil Martin. Martin took over the program in 1982 and compiled a record of 137-58-9, best in school history. Martin, who also is a television production professor in the College's Department of Visual Communications Technology, was named to the National Junior Athletic Association Football Hall of Fame earlier this month. Coach Martin said he reluctantly supports the decision to disband. "I understand the urgent financial needs our College is facing in this time of very limited budgets," said Martin. "I knew it was probably time to end it. (Rockville Campus Athletic Director) Tom Bichy and I came to that conclusion when we talked extensively before meeting with the administration. "Lots of people, especially coach Martin, have worked very hard to make this program go," said Bichy. "The success it has had is a tribute to their dedication and commitment. But we have to face the realities of the situation and recognize that discontinuing football at this time is the right decision for the College and for the rest of our athletic programs. The football program can look back on a proud history, a winning record, and the knowledge that it has helped a lot of young people." Under Coach Martin alone, 188 MC football players moved along to four-year college teams, including quarterback, John Kaleo, who was named NJCAA Player of the Year after leading the Knights to an undefeated season in 1990. Kaleo went on to become starter at the University of Maryland, where he set numerous passing records and was offensive MVP in 1992. Seven ex-Knights have played professional football, among them Lamar King, currently a defensive lineman with the Seattle Seahawks, and standout tight end Bob Windsor, who played for 10 years in the NFL at San Francisco and New England during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Windsor is credited with being the first MC alumnus to play professional sports. The current football team's final activity was a meeting today at which players were informed of the program's termination and promised help with transitioning to other programs. The team finished its 2002 season with a record of 4-5. That brings the all- time Knight's mark 315-154-13. Among its three campuses, in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park, Montgomery College will continue fielding 23 teams in 11 sports for men and women. The College belongs to Division III of the NJCAA, which is made up of schools that do not recruit athletes or award athletic scholarships. Amateur football in this area has taken a real hit. Friedgen is taking Maryland back to its glory days, Navy's coming off a good season, VT and PSU's alumni bases in the area are very active but... The local public league is far from competitive ever since they split up a large upcounty school and turned the 4A, 3A/2A/1A divisions a joke. Players from those two schools (2A Northwest, led by Clemson recruit QB Ike Whitaker, and 3A Seneca Valley) regularly transfer based on what opportunities there are to start. The division championship always comes down to their one game, it's kinda hard to get excited over any rivalry between the two when the starting LB of one school was the star of the other's JV program, and vice-versa. No one respects the 4A division, because its clearly a step down despite its larger class sizes and newer facilities. The DC private school league is trying to kick out the stronger Montgomery County schools after this year, possibly forcing them to play teams half-way across the state in Baltimore. Then again maybe I'm just upset my alta mater Richard Montgomery High gave up 4 TDs to Whitaker.

In fact, I'm not #89 like the media guide says...I'm #42 (which is in the game program)...this is the 1st year we've decided to have our names on the back of our jerseys....so I got my name on there....it's good times. I'm not on the travelling squad though. Which is expected when there are 13 WRs, and only 6 will travel.

Good luck with the rest of the season. 543457 Well most of our games are on TV here this year (see my sig) but this one wasn't for some odd reason. Actually, I thought you guys would blow us out. We have a good team, but lost a lot of players from last year, and our young players, although very talented, are very inexperienced, and then having Haldi our QB hurt made it even worse. Your running game is flat out awesome. Our team is prided on stopping the run, so you should be proud of your effort running the ball, Josh Allen is a very good ballplayer. You should also be happy with your secondary. Yes our QB was hurt, but we still have very dangerous WR's, and you did a good job stopping them. As for not being in a bowl game, the MAC only has 2 bowl tie ins, for the champions of the MAC East and MAC West, who play in the Conference title game. Last year, we went 10-2 and finished tied for the MAC West title with Bowling Green, however Bowling Green got the trip to the MAC title game and Auto Bowl bid since they beat us head to head and had the tiebreaker. So with no auto bowl bid due to conference tie ins, we were kinda stranded. What made it worse is that we almost got invited to the Houston Bowl (many thought we would) but instead they invited Navy, who was crushed by Texas Tech, and I think we could have gave the Red Raiders a good game. Anyways, I was at the game last year, and I really liked what I saw from your team despite the fact we beat you that day. Your program is loaded with talent, Fridgen is a great coach, and your future is bright. Good luck to you all the rest of this season, as, like last year, the better you do, the better it makes us look!

September 6, 200422 yr no doubt! that, and I saw the SoCon championship rings from 2001...they are HUGE. 544045 do you think you can win the national title ring or do you got your sights more on the conference title?
September 6, 200422 yr honestly, I see absolutely no reason we can't win it all. Ok, last year, we lost to Wofford by 1 (doubled them in total yardage...but lost 7-6 because 1) we couldnt get in the end zone and 2) a bad snap on a game winning field goal in the 4th quarter....with a kicker who was d-1aa all-american). Wofford made it to the NCAA d-1aa semi-finals. We return 20 starters, and add Ingle Martin.
September 6, 200422 yr cool. well good luck this year dude and post pics of the ring if you can get one. you got to read this article. its about when bill simmons (the sports guy) saw his patriots first ring a couple of years ago. i love reading his articles. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020822.html
