June 29, 200323 yr Here is an interesting political question. What political party if any do you subscribe to? Why? What is your basis for who you vote for? And on. Have at it folks.
June 29, 200323 yr Well although I can't vote I stay close to politics, Watch a number of political shows and I am A Democrat. Sure it has something to do with my parents but seeing that I come from a working class family middle class, I feel The Democrats are the ones looking out for us and every other working family. I do like a number of Republicans don't get me wrong, Powell, John, Mccain(sp), The Doles slightly, Imus even though he has no political power, and a few others but... I can't stand The Republican Presidents and most of their leaders, Money Hungry dogs who only look out for each other.
June 29, 200323 yr Author See for me, I tend to never stay true to any political party. The two major ones are both full of crap and are so close to each other that its often difficult to tell a democrat from a republican unless you look real close. I like many of the ideals that the minor parties work toward. However most third parties have very singled minded focus on issues and focus only on one or two issues but neglect to look at the entire picture which is sad. If the many ideas were combined there might be an uber party formed which I would actually agree with. However that is just not the case so I affiliate myself with no political party fully.
June 29, 200323 yr Well most party's are just cast off's of the major parties. Hence the reason they take away votes for some parties. They have the same base but yet have an idea that seperates them and makes them more 'attractive' than the main ones. E.G.The Green Party. Al Gore would be in office right now if it wasn't for The Econonomy freaks and most of those who voted for Nader were guys who voter Democrat in local elections where their party is not represented.
June 29, 200323 yr Author Al Gore would be President if he had won his home state. Not being able to win your home state should disqualify you from the Presidency anyway.
June 29, 200323 yr Your right one of the main reasons my dad hate the man. Instead of spending all his damn time in Texas a state he knew he couldn't win, He should have went home for a day or two then spent the rest of the time in Florida. But hey...
June 29, 200323 yr Author Gore has nobody to blame but himself for losing the Presidency. You can whine all you want about the Green Party, but in the end, Gore shot himself in the foot.
June 29, 200323 yr Author Does the centrist party still exist? I cant find them on the current party rolls.
June 30, 200323 yr Registered Republican. Dont really consider myself as much Republican as I do conservative. I tend to vote Republican because a lot of the Republican candidates are candidates I agree with, or at the very least are the least worse. My congressman Dave Weldon I feel is a great congressman, and I agree with almost all his ideals....he's Republican...therefore I voted Republican. George Bush I felt/feel is a better candidate than Al Gore. Same with Jeb vs. McBride.
June 30, 200323 yr P.S. I try to follow George Washington's warning that a party system would be a major problem with the American government. It's true. I try not to consider myself a Republican. But many Republicans are who I feel are the better candidate and representative of my beliefs.
June 30, 200323 yr Author The party system itself presents interesting views. It really began in the 1820s and is not nearly as powerful as it was for much of hte 19th century. Washington had many warts, but he was still a man who realized many positive qualities in this nation and gave us numerous 'rules' to live behind. If only all the founding fathers had been like George or at least similar.
June 30, 200323 yr If I can remember correctly, the first parties were formed between Jeffersonian politics and Federalist politics backed by Alexander Hamilton (who also backed the Federal Bank, which the Federalist party backed).
June 30, 200323 yr Author true, but those parties really pale in comparision to the way we see and associate parties with today.
June 30, 200323 yr Admin, I believe thats what most of my family is. Democrat registered (Southern democrats) but vote republican now.
July 1, 200323 yr Well Ceaser was a good leader. The world may have being way better if he would not have being killed. BTW: I consider myself a Republican.
July 1, 200323 yr No party affiliation. I am basically a political free agent. I vote based on which canidate I believe can do the most based on the needs at the time (or whichever may be the lesser of two evils, as the case may be.) later.......
July 1, 200323 yr I'm a Libertarian. Long live SMALL government! I've actually noticed an interesting trend in my voting over the years. I long considered myself a Republican, because I tend to vote Republican for the big offices like President or Governor. Then I looked again. I tend to vote Republican for the positions of Governor on up to the President. Why? Republicans TEND to be more fiscally conservative and spend [waste] less money on social programs that the FEDERAL government has no business dealing with. I tend to vote Democrat for all of my local positions. Why? Because Democrats tend to spend more money on social programs that actually help me or my neighbors. I think that at this level, you get more bang for the buck. There is less red tape, so more of my tax money actually ends up helping the schools or local business or what-have-you. Anyway, that's just something I've noticed.
July 2, 200323 yr Author We are learning some interesting things here in this topic. I truly do wish more would respond and share their views. Here is another interesting question. Do you vote?
July 2, 200323 yr I am a registered democrat and until recently voted strictly that way. Now, its all about what the person stands for not his/her party affiliation, imo. I say centrist because a while back I posted a quiz about what party you are for based on your answers. I fell into the centrist catagory and did some research. I realized that that party stands for almost all that I believe in. Now if it still exists....I have no clue. I am also a political free agent, only polital views, not money will bring my vote.
July 3, 200323 yr Author I think I read something on this idea of being a Centrist a while back. It was one of those canned surveys if I recall where you get a semi-decent idea of where you fit in various arenas in life.
