October 4, 200421 yr first of all, the 15 wins is his most since 1996(just pointing it out) his era of 5.19 is pitiful and it's even worse when you think of the pitcher's parks he was in this year(PetCo and Pro Player) if he is invited back to the team he needs to earn his spot in ST, nothing is to be guaranteed and he should not get more than $1mil(ugh) I personally think he is no good and the 15 wins were due to his run support and was just a pretty big fluke *waits for rebuttal*
October 4, 200421 yr If he's cheap (i.e. Darren Oliver money), he's fine for a 5th starter, IMO. It isn't like we have a young guy that can step in right now for similar money and play well (unless I'm wrong, if I am, point me in the right direction).

If he wants a million or more, it probably would be best to throw out a young guy and use the extra money to sign or trade for a real pitcher as our #4 guy (Paul Wilson, Clement, Glavine, etc.).

October 4, 200421 yr He's injury was once a top pitcher..he's lost alot of his stuff then again he hasn't really been healthy all that long to get it back. (Tosses head) Then again not likely he'll get it back at this age, I would mind him as our 5th for one million, but anything more than that is no good. You also have to realize that you would be very optimitsic to think that Bump, Phelps, Kensing or Perisho could do all that much better and likelier than not they'd end up doing worse.

October 4, 200421 yr Seems like a fine 5th starter to me. Most of the time, he gives us a chance to win unlike the other pudwhacks who gave up like 9 in their 2 IP.. and also seems to pitch well in the home ballpark. I'd rather take my chances with Valdez than some untested double-A kid.

Any stat that is dependent on other players should not be used to evaluate 1 player.

They suck. 582776[/snapback] Kensing was called back from winter vacation and working with coaches and a catcher he never met before. Tejera, Small and others were in AAA mst of the year where you have to learn pitch differently. You can't let people hit fly balls in Abuquerque, they'll leave the park, not here at PPS. Bump, Wayne and Phelps had been trained as relievers for most of the year and were asked to change their focus in 3 days. Given a chance out of spring training they'll do much much better.
