October 19, 200422 yr a little patience things will workout. Are we fans of teams or players? Do we root for the name on the front or the name on the back? I ask a couple of weeks back if they would trade a Lowell or a Castillo for a stadium. The responses were mixed, but people this organization is on life-support. The stadium is the ONLY thing that will save baseball in this community. People are really stressing out over what to do if the stadium is not approved...making out budgets, player trades, what players to sign...but it all comes back to the stadium. I don't want baseball to die, I don't want the Marlins to die. The hope is still there, but there is an alot stress over what to do....if :plain Here's for a ninth inning rally for my team :beer

What's more, I see a stadium keeping baseball in South Florida, but if we have another breakup this offseason (Lowell, Castillo, Pavano, Benitez), baseball may be too far gone to "save." I just have a hard time believing that someone who cries poor at every chance is going to spend on a team when he's committed so greatly financially to the construction of a stadium...that is if he even decides to pick up the final $30 million.

I've said that before. And to answer your unusually lame posting, I am a fan of the players on our team and not, as you apparently are, of the team's check-book. Loria is apparently over his head, with Sellig's help. Get real.
October 19, 200422 yr all i want from the FO this season is to get the stadium deal done and once again give us a team thats going to be there in the end...if lowell has to go to make these things happen, mike thanks for the memories but remember this game is a buisness now and this would be the best buisness move for the marlins to have a change at a stadium and keeping its good players and adding others..
October 19, 200422 yr I agree 100% with the thrust of the lead post. The emergence of Jimmy Morales as a possible Miami-Dade mayor and his avowed commitment to skuttle a Marlins stadium has thrown a monkeywrench into the Marlins plans. When he publically threatened George Burgess' job as County manager (Burgess being the lead person driving stadium plans) he sent a strong message to the current county adminsitration that anyone who helped push the plan forward would be getting a pink slip if he wins. In that light, it isn't surprising that trading Mike Lowell or a Castillo comes to the front. In any other city this wouldn;t be happening, I don't see how anyone can blame Loria and company, they are being played bigtime by county politics. (edit) I'd also like to add that another issue confronting the Marlins is the timing of the arbitration ruling (Expos issue) scheduled for November 15th and the possible litigation (by Montreal interests) aimed at keeping the Expos in Montreal which is scheduled to begin in early December. The confluence of these things - the mayoral election and the arbitration - coming together as they are right as a decision has to be made regarding Lowell and potentially other players really has to be tieing the hands of the organization. I suspect the $30 million problem will evaporate almost immediately if Alvarez is elected and Loria and MLB dodge a bullet in arbitration. But that said, it may be too late to save a Mike Lowell.
October 19, 200422 yr Author There is a very, very dark cloud over the current stadium proposal. I've said that before. Get real. 596151 NO I'm a Marlins' fan...not a Loria, Henry, or Wayne fan. Owners have come and gone due to the lack of funds coming in to secure a team for any long term. No OWNER with deep or not so deep pockets will survive losing money in this situation. The only thing that will keep an owner here longer than others will be how much money there willing to lose during that period. AND for those fans that question Loria commitment should look at his track record and his commitment to win...and win BIG. He has told his people to go after ANYBODY that will make his team better, during the offseason and during the season. Money though will be a problem this offseason because of the commitment(funds) the organization has to make to secure a long term home. I and some of the orginal members of this board have stood by this team through the badtimes and goodtimes. Players coming and going...let the chips fall and see what we have come April. As Marlins fan we learn accept it, do we like NO...But I have enough confidence in management to put a good product on the field. Here's another question will you continue to go to the games, if the Marlins field a bunch of triple A players with Lowell starting at 3B? I'll anwser that for you NO! besides Lowell himself won't stay, he'll opt out if Pavano and others don't come back. So I would think if your a smart franchise you'll try to move him. I'm not saying not to be a fan of Lowell or any other member of the team, just understand this is the situation this franchise is in...and has been now for years. just hope that somehow everybody can come together on a stadium deal.

There will be some losses...yes, but to doubt Loria commitment that is wrong guy. He's not a Billionare, so he has to be creative in other ways. It doesn't help that his partners have left him at the door holding bill. Why can't he go out and get other partners? Alot of potential partners have said NO until a stadium deal is approved. Just stand by your team, and lets see what happens.
October 19, 200422 yr All I ask for is Jacque Jones..... 596168 Dude.. Jacque Jones is Juan Encarnacion minus the arm.
October 19, 200422 yr Dude....Jacque Jones is 100x better then Encarnacion and he has a better attitude. Juan is a fastball hitter who has modest power.
October 19, 200422 yr I cheer for the name on the front, not on the back as some have said in the past. They are the Florida Marlins, not the Mike Lowells or Luis Castillos. It takes every single man to win and if the front office (which I trust...what other option do I really have?) needs to make sure certain moves are made to keep this swiss cheese-like boat afloat...then make the moves!
October 19, 200422 yr "There is not one property in the entire sporting world that is perfectly marketed," says David Samson, president of the Florida Marlins. "The only thing that you can do wrong is maintain the status quo."
October 19, 200422 yr I'll always root for the Marlins (me and my Teal Cap.) That includes the Las Vegas Marlins.
October 19, 200422 yr Owners will move at least once more before this team moves. MLB couldn't even move the Expos and they have 2 teams on the docket before us in the Twins and Athletics.

Not so much an attachment to the Marlins on the part of MLB, but an attachment to the media market.

October 20, 200422 yr Enc is a career .260 hitter....Jacque .285.....Jacque has modest more power and has the intangibles....
October 20, 200422 yr I don't know what's worse... Jacque Jones, Juan Encarnacion, a 70-win season or losing Mike Lowell. Oh wait, yes, I do.. the Las Vegas Marlins or another John Henry operating the Florida Marlins.
