July 3, 200323 yr J. Rod helped me (July 1st) with a breakdown of Marlins roster salaries. Very disturbing. Not used to playing budget Monopoly. I was just a baseball player, now just a naive fan. Looked up Almanza last night. $775,000. Hollandsworth $1,500,000. Vlad Nunez, $1,400,000. At $300,000, Castro, Banks, A. Nunez, Phelps, Spooney, Tejera. And top of the list is even more curious. Castillo at $4,850,000 and Gonzo at $1,700,000. Thanks J.Rod but I'm throwing out this list. I try to understand each game, but this financial stuff is more than I can handle. Pudge, of course, at $9,318,298 I can't even cope with.

July 3, 200323 yr Pick up a copy of Michael Lewis' - Moneyball. It's a behind the scenes look at Billy Beane and the rest of the Oakland A's front office. It should help to enlighten you a bit. :confused
July 3, 200323 yr I know this has nothing to do with the Marlins, but talking about wasted money, you know who is on the top of the Orioles salary list for this year? Albert Belle, who will make $12.5 million this year. He hasnt played since 2000!
July 3, 200323 yr Great point Ross. Every team has "payroll dogs" - we should be happy that our largest is only for 1.5 million - how do you think the Mets feel paying Mo Vaughn each week?

July 3, 200323 yr Belle is still an active player. Makes sense. Why retire and forfeit the money, when you can just run out your contract doing nothing? Can't say the guy is dumb...

July 3, 200323 yr Alex Fernandez did not do what Albert Belle has been doing for nearly as long. And Alex did make an attempt to come back. Something I do not believe Albert has done at all.
July 3, 200323 yr Me too. We should have known better. A couple more feet last night - would have been nice.
