July 5, 200322 yr Pavano pitched a terrific game tonight and deserved more for his effort. For all chatter about Derrick's defensive play, it sure didn't seem to me that he even looked home before his toss to 2nd. But the guy came through (which only goes to prove even a broken clock is right twice a day) in the end so no bashing him tonight. Let's see what Penny can contribute tomorrow night. It wasn't an accident that my hero, Fightin' Jack McKeon, made that comment about maybe trying Penny or Pavano in bullpen. Carl did his thing and showed he still belongs as a Marlins starter, let's see if Penny can walk the walk. All the pressure is on him. Jack is out to break Penny of his bad habits one way or the other. Jack must see something in him or I suspect he wouldn't even bother. Everytime Penny opens his trap he gets in deeper and deeper with Jack. Penny went on the record in the Palm Beach Post after McKeon's "bullpen" comment, that his arm wouldn't allow him to go to the pen. Penny keeps acting like he runs the team but last I time looked it was Jack in the corner office smokin' a stogey and not Brad. Tommorow's going to be VERY VERY interesting.
July 5, 200322 yr Yea he had an Excellent Start today. His change up was working nasty along with his slider and he spotted all his pitches. I hope Penny does the same and maybe we can get way up above .500!
July 5, 200322 yr Like I've always said. He has been dominant in 2/3 of his starts. You're seeing the pitcher they thought he could be when they insisted he be in the Pedro trade. The only thing that shocked me about Pavano stats... 4 BB? Has he EVER done that?
July 5, 200322 yr Well the Ump had a tight strike zone so.... I liked how Pavano threw his fastball in and his slider away. Nice job he kept the hitters of balance.
July 5, 200322 yr He's Greg Maddux in disguise! No, Greg would have had a ball in the ground called for strike.
July 5, 200322 yr The only thing that shocked me about Pavano stats... 4 BB? Has he EVER done that? Yeah, but that ump played a part there too...
July 5, 200322 yr I don't think he has ever done that in his career. If Carl Pavano walks 4 guys, it probably wasn't his fault...
July 5, 200322 yr Yhe Umpire was horribl, Pavano made some good pitches that the Umpire called a ball and so did Millwood.
July 5, 200322 yr well im not gonna kiss Pavz a$$..... he did good yesterday, and thats great to hear..... but still doesnt mean i like him, neva have and neva will..... i also kept saying he should be in the pen and phieps should be starting... well i wish i could have seen yesterdays game or listened to it...... but i couldnt... read the Box Score very good game picthed, but im sure the Juan Piere robbing Ricky Ledee HR was as huge as anything else that happned in last nights game..... 4 BB lmao wtf its pavz he has great control and bla bla bla..... "next Maddux" maddux this year is 6-7 with an ERA ova 4 or something....
July 5, 200322 yr 1 walk was intentional.... and odom i think they mean the next Maddux(when he was younger)
July 5, 200322 yr oh no Ramp, i know what they man, but u know i will neva like pavz..... yo Ramp how bout this Starting Pitcher who eva he is go's 7 Innings... Phieps SET UP MAN Loop CLOSER Thats perfect right? or till we get a set up man (MIKE DEJEAN)
July 5, 200322 yr Phelps set-up? OK! No... Why not? Especially against the Phils with their 2 power lefties. He pitched FINE last night if you take away the ump's eye troubles.
July 5, 200322 yr Phelps is a long-middle reliever... I still like the stuff Blaine Neal brings, if he can only get back to how he did last year...
