November 12, 200421 yr If it is true, I hope he turns us down. He isn't worth anywhere near that amont. AJ and Beckett will commaned $12 million a year compared to him once they become FAs. :mad : 613270 that's assuming either one of them can stay healthy (something neither one of them has managed to do yet). Beckett has yet to have a great season. Pavano's winning games, has a low ERA, and eats up innings. He also stepped up big time in the world series run when it counted. What else do you pay big money for? 613275 For someone who's done that for more than one year...in a contract year no less. :plain 613313 Exactly...is he that much better than Clement, Wright, or any of those other names that we could potentially nab for 2 million less a season? He's had one good season, he might be the real deal, but that amount of money is a huge burden for this financially strained team with contracts to Castillo and Lowell already in place and frankly not worth the risk. 32 million dollars allocated to one player...I'd rather they offer that money to Drew, in the form of a 3 year contract at 27 million.

They can easily get much more than taht. Good offer. I'm happy the front office is at least trying. Seems to me they are kind of playing the PUdge card and giving what everyone feels is a fair offer and if he doesn't accept then hes going to be the greedy jerk

So basically 4-6 million as opposed to 8 million
November 12, 200421 yr Found this on rotoworld: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...ort=MLB&id=5945 Latest News Nov. 11, 2004 - 3:21 am et Carl Pavano's agent followed up Tuesday's conversations with the Orioles and Mariners by meeting with the Yankees, Tigers and Reds yesterday. Boston's turn might come today. The New York Post is reporting a rumor that Pavano will end up staying with the Marlins on a four-year, $32 million contract. "That's news to me." agent Scott Shapiro said.
November 12, 200421 yr Remember that when you sign another teams free agent their are many unknowns. when it is your own free agent, Pavano, you know his health status and his mental make-up much better. (clement and wright)

I think Clement might be gotten for 6 million a season for 3 years or so, it not him then maybe Wright or Morris.
November 12, 200421 yr lol, Clement will make more than 4-6 million. I'd guess he's going to get around 6-8 million as well. Pavano is definitely worth 8 mil a year

Pavano is definitely worth 8 mil a year 613395 Please elaborate...I've yet to understand why a career mark below .500, an ERA over 4 and one winning season in a walk year says a pitcher has a track history for success. Plus, in the case of Pavano, his stuff isn't even overpowering, so you could at least make that excuse for Clement...Pavano isn't nearly as good as we give him credit to be. I'm not saying he's "bad" but he certainly isn't deserving of being our highest paid player.

Check out Pavano's last 3 years pitching stats and you will see why teams are lining up for his services...
November 12, 200421 yr It's too bad all these baseball teams lined up to get him aren't as smart as you TSwift... lol give me a break
November 12, 200421 yr Who was that guy the braves picked up, that wasnt too overpowering either but ended up winning 4 cy youngs? :plain
November 12, 200421 yr if u ask me, this is a scary risk. IMO i think 32 million is aliitle too much for a guy who has had 1 real good year. i mean lets say he signs then that may mean harder chance to sign guys like la duca and other guys where looking to pick up in FA. i dont know i dont like it, but what can i do.
November 12, 200421 yr I still believe that all of this may be a replay of Berardino's column working it's way through the media, slowly going from guess to rumor to fact as one person quotes another person and on and on...
November 12, 200421 yr If he says no, I'll judge his character.Thats more than enough to live with, and he "enjoys playing in South Florida". Thats alot of friggin money. All I kow is that for all that money, he better be MVP next year. I hope he stays. :brigginbounce
November 14, 200421 yr It's too bad all these baseball teams lined up to get him aren't as smart as you TSwift... lol give me a break 613404 LOL...the Sox AND the Yanks are asking for Carl's services... Whatever contract he signs, he's going to be overvalued. He might be the real deal, in which he would deserve 8 million, but that's a huge risk to take if you are a small market team.
