Pavs won't get a better deal anywhere else. Even if a couple of clubs like the Yanks or Sox offer him a massive contract for a couple million more, the difference won't be all that much since he would have to pay some ridiculous taxes on it living in New York or Massachusetts.

 

He better not decline this offer.

I agree. If this means we can't afford Benitez and LoDuca then it is a bad move.

I would be shocked if Pavano turns down this deal.

I'm sure this is what they were planning on giving him anyways. When negotiating, you don't start with your best offer. You start with something lower, then see what you're dealing with. Once you see you have to up your offer, you go for it. I'm sure they won't go beyond this.

 

For those who think this is too high for a player that has had one good season, I agree and I've been saying it all along. I remember the days when a player had to have at least 4 straight solid seasons to demand a contract like this.. Unfortunately, this is the way baseball is nowadays... I hope he accepts and comes back next year...

First of all I don't know if this is true or not but it sounds like someone mimicing Berardino's column this morning.

They were reporting this on 790's updates this afternoon. If they can sign pavano to this deal i like it. 6-8-8-10 .... makes alot of sense and is the market for a guy like him. It would mean benitiz is gone. I don't think it effects loduca. I think loduca can be penciled in next seasons line-up right now. Beinfest did not trade for this guy for half a season.

 

6-8-8-10 is an asumption of the breakdown.

I feel like that will be the highest Carl gets. It feels awefully overpriced.

Better to just let him know up front they're committed to making a serious offer, so Carl knows where they stand.

Of course he's worth that amount of money. Look around the league and see what other pitchers make. That contract is average compared to other pitchers.

For someone who's done that for more than one year...in a contract year no less. :plain

He's obviously been improving the last 2 years and looked great this year. I doubt a guy who looked that good the whole year and improve on a quality year the year before, helped us win a world series, would just lose it and only pitch well in a contract year. Thats just ignorant talk. Well worth the money IMO

I feel that we are paying him too much for just one good year that he had. What of he goes back to being the injury plagued -10 win starter that he was before.
