December 10, 200421 yr Too many K's.... Stats can sometimes be deceiving in cases like these. He makes way too many unproductive outs... Ask Billy Beane if he'd want Adam Dunn. 631843 But he makes less than a million bucks. So if we can unload Enc and AJ and get Dunn and a AA we can use that extra 5 million or so to go get another starter or keep pavs, or get Tino or a few solid bench players. Talk about making a serious run then.
December 10, 200421 yr If it's Dunn......meh... :plain 631837 Yeah, 50 HRs, 110 RBIs, .370 OBP. Talk about assy stats. :plain 631839 Especially if you put Cabs infront of him and Lowell behind him. 631842 *Orgasm* :o < orgasm face Dunn is a stud and the deal will open up some money for Pavano.
December 10, 200421 yr Here's one I pick up today, On the trade block? AJ/ Juan Encarnacion for a future starter(Double AA starter) and an everyday player(left-handed OF) Do I believe? NO...but I thought I'd pass it along, though lets play the what if game If the Marlins want to Juan so badly with AJ having to go with him to get anything good in return. Why not trade AJ/Juan for Hudson? I know the A's want a 2B, then work out a three-way deal....just a thought 631827 I'll play along. It's a thought. Burnett is in the final year of his contract, and he's one of the 10 pitchers on the D-Backs list of guys acceptable for R. Johnson, so a three way with the Yanks or Angels or other Johnson suitors could happen. Otherwise...thoughts... (and these are options, not reccomendations or I have personally read somewhere) Boston - package of prospects and Trot Nixon (I would not do this, but the Sox would probably be interested in Burnett) Cincinnati - for Dunn and a pitcher (Cincy prolly won't take on the salary, though) Texas - for Blalock (prolly no chance) or Texiera and some prospects. Both are lefty and could play first base (or in Blalock's case, shift Lowell over to first), with Conine going to left. Only problem is Cabrera sucks in right, and Texas might be reluctant to part with these young guns, though they are looking for pitching. These are just ideas. I would consider dealing with Cincy or Texas IF, and only if, a good pitcher could be had to replace Burnett. Please add other ideas or comments.

December 10, 200421 yr So, let's entertain this though for sh**s and giggles... We trade Enc and AJ for Dunn and a AA pitcher.... Dunn plays 1st, shifting Conine to LF, and Cabs to RF.. Assuming we have enough money to up our offer to Pavano, our rotation could look like this: Pavano Leiter Beckett Willis Valdez Not too shabby....

Chances are the Marlins would have to take back one moderately priced player along with Dunn in the deal.

Even if the Marlins had to eat a million or two it would free up three million. But I think the Reds might take on the money, because Juan still is a gold glove caliber OF and AJ can lead their staff, they might be content.

December 10, 200421 yr people forget about Pavano, he will sign a 4 year deal worth 9-11 million with a rich team. Pavs is not worth that money.
December 10, 200421 yr Ken Griffey Jr and why the Reds would want Encarnacion back is beyond me 631871 They won't trade him, he will get healthy and stay healthy eventually. Plus he puts fannies in the seats.

December 10, 200421 yr Yeah if the Reds would take the Burnett/Enc deal, it's worth thinking over, especially because of the savings. Even if Pavano won't re-sign, there are other free agent pitchers who could fit the bill as a no.3. Teixiera might be a more realistic option, though, if only for this deal, because Texas can afford to eat payroll more than Cincinnati can, and they need a pitcher too. If they'd do a deal involving him is questionable, but it's worth a phone call if the Marlins wanted to unload Enc/Burnett badly enough, which I doubt.
December 10, 200421 yr I don't think the Marlins are willing to deal Encarnacion at the expense of Burnett, and if they are, I'm really not sure what to make of it. We have to build around pitching so why trade our best pitcher? And, with Encarnacion in the picture, we could never get equal value for AJ.
December 11, 200421 yr Please be true. Any trade like this suggests the front office is being creative and forward-thinking, not expecting a third-place team to win by just filling holes.
