Castillo to Oakland???

Featured Replies

The Marlins talked to Beane about second baseman Luis Castillo, whose on-base percentage matches the A's philosophy. But his contract doesn't: He is owed $10 million over the next two years, with a $5.25 million option for'07 that can vest based on plate appearances. The Marlins also have pitcher A.J. Burnett, who is being sought by many teams and could become involved if negotiations become really tangled.

Would Luis and AJ bring us Hud and a good prospect or Mecir??

Oh yeah, let's just trade Pierre and all the players Juanky likes.

I hope they are not really considering this. Luis Castillo needs to remain a Marlin. We'd be losing a great second baseman and a pitcher, who we may lose next year anyways for a pitcher we may also lose next year anyways, and an average relief pitcher.... No thanks.

trading either pierre or castillo would be a big mistake cause it would kill the little offence we have...everybody knows that its pierre and castillo that gets the engine moving....noway the fish trade him..

If we trade Luis then we should also trade JP. If were gonna get rid of part of our 1-2 punch then we might as well get rid of the whole thing. Luis and JP are a great team with their speed, and they both need each other in the lineup. You have to make up your mind, do you want to have a lot of speed, or power? If we get rid of Luis we'd be showing that we want more power in our lineup, and if so then we should get rid of JP also. But I don't want to lose them.

what will they give us in return

Probably some good pitching.

Yeah Hudson is really crappy. :plain

The guy only owns one of the top all-time winning percentanges among pitchers who have 100 or more decisions (I believe its like .700 around there.)

i really dont know how to go on this one hes great has been good for us i hope the fo dose the right thing. i guess damian will start at 2b

Offensively luis and juan are redundant and loduca would make a great number 2 hitter. Luis would be missed defensively more than offensively. if we were to deal luis and aj for hudson and a prospect we would free up some money for a left handed power hitter.

Especially every August and September when he hits .180.

Personally I liked Luis in the seven hole last season (although I know he hated it). Several here have suggested LoDuca is a fine hitter in the two hole and when Castillo batted seventh the guys above him the lineup saw better pitches.

I would hate to see him traded. I can't imagine trading BOTH AJ and Castillo for Hudson. To me, that's overpaying big time.

Anyway if we lose Castillo there are 2b out there. Cairo and Palanco would be adequate, Polanco would be better since he is a classic #2 hitter.

This is definitely giving up way too much for what could potentially be a one year rental... There is no guarantee that we sign Hudson long term.

I'd rather get Javier Vasquez in return for A.J. At least he's guaranteed through 2007.

Tough move to make especially since you are losing one of the core Marlins and a top defensinve 2B. Easley would cause the dropoff at 2b to be cushioned since his career OBP isnt that horrible but about 50 points lower than Luis although we would pick up a bit more power at the 2 spot since Easley has a career .408 slugging vs Luis' .348 meaning more doubles and home runs. I dont think the dropoff would be as terrible as some of you make it out to be on offense.

If we do end up doing the deal, it would probably mean they are positive they can resign Hudson and that they are positive they will be trading AJ since there won't be enough money for both of them. I assume then that they would try and pull of the Vazquez deal and try and get the Yankees to eat up as much salary as possible.

Rotation:

Hudson

Leiter

Beckett

Willis

Vazquez

1. Pierre

2. Easley

3. Lowell

4. Cabs

5. LoDuca

6. Conine

7. Enc

8. Gonzo

Or instead of Vazquez, maybe allow Castillo to be replaced by Easley, then trade Burnett for a slugger like Dunn. That effectivley would mean a Castillo for Dunn replacment in our team as of right now with Easley replacing Castillo.

Rotation:

Hudson

Leiter

Beckett

Willis

Vazquez

I don't think this is an option. The proposed trade here sends Castillo and A.J both to Oakland for Hudson... Meaning no trade with the Yanks for Vasquez.

There is no way the Marlins should even consider that deal then.

let's look at it this way:

castillo for hudson.

next year, we lose burnett, but we have his contract money, plus castillo's to pay for hudson long term. better than just losing burnett.

If Beinfest swings that deal and we lose Castillo and our prospects for Hudson and I see Hudson walk for free agency then Beinfest should be removed as GM. That would be a stupid stupid move. That could hurt us for a long long time.

If the Marlins can work a Louie/AJ for Hudson/Ricon then that might be worth a couple of looks. Because then we will be set when it comes to the bullpen as well, well have a lefty who can shut down lefties. And I don't see why we could't go out and try to get a Cairo or Palanco and try to sign them, neither of them will be getting anything more than Louie anyway.
