July 9, 200323 yr Well, I take all of Gammons' rumors with a grain of salt, but he just mentioned on BBTN that the Fish might have some interest in Armando Benitez. But what I found more intriguing was his comment that the Rangers, having trouble unloading Gonzalez, might be willing to deal Kevin Mench. This guy's only 25, is already putting up solid numbers this season, and is likely to get better and hit for more power as he gets older. He's also cheap and won't be a free agent for quite a long time. This is a guy I would gladly trade Derrek Lee for. Unfortunately, I doubt the Rangers need a 1B since they have Teixeira. The Rangers always need pitching though, and I would trade Penny for Mench in a heartbeat. That would be a solid acquisiton.

July 9, 200323 yr If I heard correctly, Gammons said we were coming on pretty hot lately trying to get Benitez. That's the first I've heard of that. He also said Juan said he will NOT go to the National League. So much for that rumor...

I would prefer Urbina 10 times before getting that loser. u aint the only 1..... i dnt want em ethier, i aslo dont want Uggey..... they both SUX!!! and doesnt Gammons understand we are a cheap team Bentiez gets payed heavey money..... 6.9 MIL rounded pretty much up to 7 mil a year we are half way threw the season... he has 3.5 mil left... only way i would take him as my set up man is if the muts are going to play 2.5 million of his contract this year and who knows how much he makes next year..... not to say that i feel as if Nate Bump has stepped it up dont you all think so?
