December 23, 200421 yr Eric Milton - S - Phillies Still hopeful of landing Randy Johnson, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the team is no longer in talks with Eric Milton. Perhaps the best thing the Yankees have made so far this winter was a non-move. The Marlins seem to be Milton's top suitor right now. The Dodgers and Mariners might also have some interest. December 23, 200421 yr They feel Leiter can be a good mentor for Milton more than O.Perez(who some have said is not a good teamate). A good influence, remember people last year was Milton first year in the NL. He could be a better pitcher next time around the league...just a thought
December 23, 200421 yr They feel Leiter can be a good mentor for Milton more than O.Perez(who some have said is not a good teamate). A good influence, remember people last year was Milton first year in the NL. He could be a better pitcher next time around the league...just a thought 641615 Teal Shadow, what crap! We are not running a day-care center. Either a player is ready mentally and physically for MLB or he stays appropriately developing in the minors. We don't buy somebody because we think we have a good "mentor" on board.
December 23, 200421 yr The marlins better not overpay for this guy. 641586 The Marlins BETTER not get this guy. He won 14 games but gave up like 5 to 6 runs per game. With our offense he will not win more than 5 games all year, believe me. SAY NO TO MILTON!!! :chair
December 23, 200421 yr People, you're all forgetting that last year was his first year back from injury...2003 limited him to just 3 games. Before 2003's injury, he was on the fast track to star status as a lefty: he went 13-10, 15-7, 13-9 with so-so Twins teams. I'd like him to be our #5 starter very very much, especially as a two-three year thing. He could, in the right environment, be the next Andy Pettitte or Al Leiter. That said, yes, I feel that we shouldn't go much higher than the $21/3 we offered Pavano.
December 23, 200421 yr Ever the optimist where Admin Beinfest is concerned, if we land him I have to assume there's a good reason and it's not just that Milton is the last decent pitcher left. And speaking of left, how many lefty starters do we really need unless Dontrelle (at under $400k) is being shifted to the bullpen. And wouldn't Milton money be better spent securing the future of a couple of the guys we already have? If they want to bring in another starting pitcher or two I'm all for it. Say what you will about the guy (who won 13 last season in a pitchers park), for half the price (and probably 1-2 years vs 3yrs) you could have Jose Lima who'd be fun to watch and put fans in the seats in South Florida.
December 23, 200421 yr We signed Leiter for $8m because he can not only perform, but teach. We should never sign Milton to $8m to let him 'learn' from Leiter. Thats BS.
December 24, 200421 yr milton would be a pretty good signing for 4 mill or under 8 mill is absurd would be a very serviceable 5th starter tho, especially in the pro
December 24, 200421 yr His numbers at Pro Player were quite nice. 2 GS 1-0 2.38 ERA 7 K 2 BB 9 H 11.1 IP Not too bad, granted this is an extremely small sample. For $3-5 million, I'd take him.
December 24, 200421 yr I'd take Milton. He's better than Kensing/Bump/whoever 642150 I second that. He would do well for us.
December 24, 200421 yr Indians out of race for Milton. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians have ruled out making offers to Eric Milton or Odalis Perez. The Indians tried to trade for Mark Mulder, but that failed. It apparently will take a trade for them to land the No. 3 starter they desire, but there isn't much out there at the moment. December 25, 200421 yr I love Milton as a pitcher and I think he would be a fine investment- at $5 Million a year at most. A fifth starter shouldn't even cost that for the Yankees, none the less us, so even that figure is a stretch.
