Mets and Beltran Officially Marry

Featured Replies

Heckaroo, of course his ERA last year concerns me... but again... the point was injury prone. Adn even in an off-year... his record last year was pretty damn good for the AL with a below league awerage ERA.

it was a very good year for a normal pitcher, just not a good sign for the rest of his career

cobain....

In case you haven't noticed... in just two years, the Mets have stripped themselves of all the bad habits... of all the "old guard".

Beltran himself just disputes your first point.

And please give me facts regarding our INJURY PRONE Rotation

Pedro, Glavine, Trax all pitched over 200 innings last year. Benson HAS been injury prone in the past, but even he had a relatively injury-free season as well. Zambrano as our firth starter is a freebie, as Jae Seo is more than capable of filling in.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your bad opinion

So the signing of Beltran dismisses the signings of Alomar, Cedeno, Vaughn? When you factor in Burnitz, Floyd, Cameron the Mets FO has shown a habit of bringing in injury-prone, or over the hill players for a while. Pedro isn't an exception, he pitched over 200 innings for the first time in 4 years. It's obviously he has a tear, and to think that just because he will pitch over 200 innings effectively without regard to that injury and his previous track record is blind homerism. Benson is as injury prone as they come. Glavine will be 39 next season to expect another 200 + innings from him is optimistic. You don't think Zambrano for Kazmir was stupid? They could gotten a much better pitcher in the offseason and they could have held on to the biggest jewel in the minor league system. I'm sorry but the Mets are the worst run organization 'of all time' to quote Napoleon Dynamite.

Can this be sent to MLB please? I'd rather not have to put up with New York garbage when I'm trying to get Marlin news.

i saw this on another forum can anyone confirm this

Tim Kurkjian on ESPN NEWS SAID THAT THE METS WILL MAKE A RUN FOR SAMMY SOSA 2:30

if this is true i highly doubt the mets will make a move on delgado.

This would change everything...but remember Jerkjan is an Orioles fan and has shown his slant many times before.

i dont have espn news can you tell me what is he saying?

He was talking about Beltran. Didn't catch but the end...sorry.

He'll get hurt, Queens is where talent goes to die.......

And 7 years, $120 million is too much for a .265 hitter.

seems to me that people only remeber the Alomar, Vaughn, Burnitz, Cedeno signings and dismiss the Mets as losers. up until 2001 we were a wildcard team or in the hunt for the wildcard for about 3-4 years in a row. does anyone remember the Ventura, Olerud, Piazza deals to name a few?? those deals went pretty well IMO.

quit bashing and let us live man. thats all i want to do.....just live.

Mando has his best years in NY (excluding 2003), Glavine was really good last year and his record would have proved it if he had run support and Floyd hasn't been anything special since he played in Montreal.

Anyway, this is a good move for the Mets. They can use all the help they can get. And if you knock Beltran's career average or the fact he's only hit 30+ HR's one season, all I can say is I'm sure you'd love to have him on your favorite team. I know I'd love to see Beltran in teal.

Kaz Mastui?

In fact, Kaz had a good second half, and is only expected to improve... much like other Japanes players after their first adjustment year.

And I never said the Kazmir trade was a good one... I never even mentioned him. But the fact is... AGAIN, that was a different GM. In the last two years, they've gotten rid of all those mistakes that were named... which was my point.

I don't really care if you guys for some reason believe that everyone is bound to get hurt. It'll stop one day... you guys will find out on the field, I guess.

We know now that while the Mets may have signed Carlos Beltran, they were actually his third choice (behind the Yankees and Astros). What we don't know, exactly, is why. But we know it's true because, after talks fell apart with the Astros on Jan. 8, Boras called the Yankees well after midnight and offered them the chance to sign Beltran for one fewer year and nearly $20 million fewer dollars than the Mets wound up giving him.

According to baseball men who have spoken with the Yankees, the theory in the Bronx was that Beltran wanted to play for a team where he wouldn't be the biggest star.

As a Yankee, he could still have blended in beneath the shadows of Derek Jeter, Randy Johnson, Mariano Rivera, etc. As a Met, he's the face of the franchise -- from now until the day they stop writing his name in the lineup.

In Houston, meanwhile, they didn't offer the most dollars. But they offered Beltran a chance to fit into a comfortable clubhouse in which Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio and Lance Berkman were huge local icons before Beltran ever showed up.
