Comments from Lowell, Pierre, McKeon, Perisho

Featured Replies

"If you can't get excited about this, you have a problem," All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell said. "He's not only the best that was out there, but one of the best in the game. I mean, he's a guy that hit 30 home runs on a down year. He puts a much different look to our team and it puts a lot of pressure on other pitching staffs."

"He puts us right there in the mix," said center fielder Juan Pierre' Florida's lead-off hitter. "Our pitching got better with (Al) Leiter. Now our offense just got better. This just adds that thunder part to it."

Manager Jack McKeon said Delgado will help other hitters see better pitches.

"He gives us a powerful left-handed bat and it takes the pressure off the 'Kid' (Cabrera) and Mike," McKeon said.

"For the fans it sends a message that we're here to win," Lowell said. "I don't think you lock up a guy like him and think we're just going to tread water. Our upper management has been proactive and I think their sights are set on the stadium. I think the plan is to have a stadium with Delgado still on the team."

Marlins reliever Matt Perisho said he thought his teammates will be happy to have Delgado, regardless of his protests.

"If he wants to do that, I don't think it'll cause problems in the clubhouse but I definitely don't think it'll be liked," Perisho said.

"I've never met the guy. I just know I've faced him probably five times and I can't get him out. I'm glad to have him on my team."

Why is what Perisho says important? That's a wasted interview. Talk to better people, like Conine or something.

By the way, I listened to Leiter talk on ESPN Radio here in NY. He's very excited about it and said it will be much more difficult to pitch to the Marlins. Says he's looking forward to next year.

Apparently, there are a lot of guys Persisho would like to have on the team...

Probably the only ones who would answer their cell phones.

Thunder (Delgado) and Lightning (Pierre)? The Pierre quote got me thinking that that would be a good nickname for'em.

good to see Lowell being excited about the Marlins again

Very interesting comment by Hojo earlier that Lowell played a very big role in getting Delgado to sign. Could it be his PR connection? I hope we hear more details about this.

And to think that we almost lost Lowell this offseason.

We went from Losing pavano, benitez and almost Lowell to this

I don't see what the problem with Perisho's comments are.. he was obviously asked about the whole God Bless America thing and I thought he answered the question fine.

I like it too, could even go for 1-2 spots are Lightning then Cabs, Delgado, and Lowell as Thunder....now we just need to figure out what the bottom of the lineup is. At least it won't be the 'black hole' this year. :lol

I think the intention of his post was to say that what Perisho says isn't important. They should have spoken with someone else (Conine, for example)... I'm with you though. He said nothing wrong. And there's nothing wrong with askin ghim

So funny yet so true.
