"The presence of Delgado will make this team a contender right away," Martinez added, visions of the slugger dancing in his head.

 

"Not only on paper, but in attitude, in presence, everything, he will make this team a secure contender, probably one of the favorites in the league."

The Marlins are better, just like the Mets would have been "secure contenders" as Pedro said, if they landed Delgado.

Yeah, I expected Pedro to say "Oh he's okay... I mean he's big and hits it hard..." and not suck up at all to a guy he hoped to join the team, so this floors me.

yeah that 2003 was a sick offensive season for him. and that was only 2 years ago. even his '04 numbers if you add about 25-30 missed games would've been right on track.

 

I expect some minor drop-offs due to having to face a lot of new pitchers, but not too much.

i only see bright lights right now.

My top memory of delgado was this time that canseco and delgado were batting back to back in a game agaisnt the marlins. And alfonseca came in and struck both of them out back-to-back and picked up the save. (i think this was in 99 if it was 98 maybe it was mantei and not alfonseca but w/e its a blurry memory)

Would you say Pedro has some RESPECT for Delgado. :thumbup
