Bench

Featured Replies

I wouldn't mind adding either Glanville or Goodwin (assuming the price is right) to our bench. I'm not sold on Aguila...I think he might benefit for a full season in Triple A. I also noticed Brent Mayne is still available...I think he would be an upgrade over DiFelice as a backup catcher.

Any thoughts on our bench?

Conine/Enc

Easley

Harris

C ?

OF ?

INF ?

:mischief2

Goodwin would be a good invite and Mayne would be worth a minor-league deal.

BTW: I noticed the Devil Rays picked up Nomo with a minor-league contract. Nice move for them.

Whomever the bench may consist of, they MUST do better than last year's sorry cast. We ranked last or second to last in nearly every batting category for pinch-hitters. It cost us a lot of games we could have won.

Coming in in the ninth facing some 95 mph closer with no at bats in a week is a piece of cake, right RFerry?

"Sorry cast?" Wow :thumbdown

I happen to agree we need a stronger, more productive bench than last season but your constant putdowns are getting tiresome.

I dont know if id call them a sorry cast, but rferry is right, we need more production off the bench.

I think Enc / Easley on the bench is already an improvement over last years. We're getting there, and I'm pretty confident that we'll be great this year.

I think a bench of Conine/Encarnacion, Easley, Dillon, De Felice (or some other catcher), Delgado, and Aguila is better than last year's crew. When thinking about what kind of bench we have, we must consider things beyond pinch hitting. In case of injury, we need some people to fill in admirably... and in Easley, Conin/Encarnacion, and Delgado we have that. The other guys are question marks, but we'll see what they're made of during spring training.

From a purely "level of play" standpoint there's less and less reason to keep Lenny Harris around, but that said Jack is nothing if not loyal (especially to those loyal to him) and one has to believe Jack is going to give Lenny every chance to get his nine hits.

Not that I endorse it but it's a reality that has to be factored in.

Because someone said we would probably keep Lenny Harris since we need a lefty coming off the bench. Well, we already have one in Delgado, if he makes the team. We should cut Lenny if he's not cutting it.

Wont be any Glanville, he just signed with the Yankees according to ESPN. Its a minor league deal, i would have like for him to join the Marlins bench.

That's ridiculous. Lenny is our lefty bat off the bench and is as good as it comes as far as career bench players go.

And I believe Lenny already has a guaranteed contract for 2005. We aren't cutting Lenny, no matter what. He will retire after this season.

I think lenny may retire mid season if he hits his milestone on pinch hits. But if hes playing well and the team cna use him he'll stay.

Actually I was thinking about the countless times Easley or Harris came in in the 6th, 7th or 8th with men on base only to kill a potential rally. The ninth inning failures were few and far between, and hurt casual fans in their pursuit of leaving the ballpark with the satisfication of a win more than the team's place in the standings.

If the focus of this team remains pitching and defense due to the ballpark and the talent, close ballgames are going to be very common, and there needs to be appropriate steps taken to help maximize the team's performance in those situations.

P.S. Get off my ass.

P.S.S. Lenny Harris has signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training and a $450K major league contract if he makes the team.
