February 1, 200521 yr Since everyone is ragging on Lebabababatard so much for saying the Cards will probably finish with a better record, but the Marlins could beat them in a short series, I am curious to see who everyone thinks is the better team.
February 1, 200521 yr The Cards are the defending NL Champs and added a guy like Mark Mulder. They are better, as of right now.
February 1, 200521 yr The Cards have member of the lollipop guild at shortstop. :plain 673735[/snapback] they have a future member of the hall of fame at 3rd and 1st, and in the dugout it all evens out

And, ya...Jack Dude that guy will get in and you know it! Stop hating on old people! Anyway, I think the Marlins have a better team. The Cardinals have a more proven team. Simple as that.
February 1, 200521 yr Cards but it's very close. I just can not pick against a lineup that goes Walker, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds.

I've noticed that people will make a post, and then very quickly edit it right after they see how it looks on the board! You are a fake, Admin! I know you have your secret editor read your posts and then fix them for you! Putz.
February 1, 200521 yr I hate the potential argument. Who knows what Miguel Cabrera will be doing in 5 years...so that is a dumb argument. A guy named Ken Griffey Jr. was a hoo-in for the HOF 5 or 6 years ago, now he will squeak in. And right now...no one in your rotation is on "pace" for the hall of fame. Delgado isnt HOF quality either. Hes about 160 HRs short and a glove short as well.

All he needs is to average 30 HR for 5 more seasons (he'll still only be 37 by that time), and he'll get to 500. This guy has put up monster seasons, especially in the RBI department. Stop hating. And of course Beckett isn't on pace...But he's only 24 (?), and Roger Clemens didn't exactly jump out to a great start in his career. Give it time, man.

Mind you, now that sterroid testing is in full force, I think we'll see somewhat of a dip in HR...
February 1, 200521 yr You act like 30 HRS for 5 more years is a piece of cake, especially for a guy coming of an injury year. Im not hating, Ive always liked Delgado, but he isnt going to be a HOFer. As for Pujols being level with Cabs....Pujols already has 160 HRs and 504 RBIs in just 4 seasons. Cabs just has 1.5 seasons of great play. It will be interestign to see how Pujols deals with his injury in the upcoming year as it seems to me like it could be one he continues to reinjure.

Fred is an enigma...He just never left the game, and somehow piled up the HR unnoticed in small cities with crappy teams (except for Atlanta of course, where he had his best years). He deteriorated rapidly in the game, and he's one-of-a-kind Anyway, he doesn't have 500. Carlos Delgado is a respected and well-known name in baseball--and that was when he was in Canada...Now, in the spotlight with a winning team that is starting to gain interest (stadium issues included ), all he has to do is NOT get injured. He missed a significant chunk of time last year and still put up great numbers. I am not going to predict what happens. I am only going to say that if he stays healthy, there is a legitimate chance that he will be in the HOF.
February 1, 200521 yr Cardinals.. That's not saying the Marlins are bad.. They have a better overall team I believe but the Cardinals could have Fred(Bird), So (Taguchi lol), and La (Russa) batting on that team especially when you have Walker, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Sanders.. Cardinals did lose Renteria, Matheny, Williams, Kline, Womack, Calero, Haren.. But have gained a year (If healthy) outta Walker that can put up more than Renteria did, Mark Mulder is better than Woody Williams I'm almost certain, Yadier Molina is replacing Matheny and was a better HITTER last year, Mike Myers isnt a Steve Kline but who cares?, Grudzielanek can do just as much as Womack did last year, Eckstein can be a little player that will be a pain in the butt in this lineup getting on base and scoring runs. The speed may have decreased on this team, the infield middle defense got worse at SS and at C.. With that said.. The Cardinals wont win as many games as last year but I dont see them dropping that much and I still WOULDN'T bet against this Cardinals team meeting the Marlins in the NLCS.. Cardinals have a good shot at another WS appearance (hopefully a better one) this year despite their losses.

The Marlins have one GG, and two potential GG on the infield. Their outfield defense is superb as well (Cabrera is the only average one of the bunch). And our pitching defense is great (D TRAIN baby)
February 1, 200521 yr Forget Mays24Roids25 ever giving any credit to the Marlins... I think he's still sour over Niner throwing out Snow to end the last chance they'll ever have at getting to the NLCS. I'm not sure I want to compare the Marlins to the Cards yet but I do think the Cards downgraded their team overall this offseason.. Tho the addition of Mulder was a great sign. They've needed an ace for a while. I think their offense (and defense) suffered by downgrading at 3 positions (SS, 2B, C) and their bullpen definitely isnt as deep as it was last year. I would also be a little concerned about the health of Pujols and there would also be the thought in my mind as if Walker can play a whole year and I wouldn't be thrilled with Reggie Sanders still starting. Overall, I think they upgraded their staff (obviously) but downgraded their offense, defense and bullpen... Still a good team tho.
February 1, 200521 yr I'll go with the Cards on this one, but it's pretty close. The Marlins are heading into the season with either Conine or Encarnacion in right, neither would be starting on most playoff teams. Marlins also lack a real closer, no one knows what Mota will do and their rotation is injury prone with Beckett, Burnett, and Leiter. The Cards lost Renteria but added a decent defensive replacement in Eckstein and an ace for their rotation in Mulder. Like Iowa said, Reggie Sanders and Admin Walker are at the age where they start to get injured or stop putting their usual numbers. As good as Delgado, Lowell, and Cabrera are; the Edmonds, Rolen, Pujols combo is better and their rotation is a safer bet to make it through the season.
