February 6, 200521 yr At the direction of Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, who is an avid art collector, HOK designed the team's proposed glass-and-steel-based ballpark. "It's going to change the way America looks at sporting buildings," Santee said. From a Wash Post story on DC's new stadium
February 6, 200521 yr That will look interesting  It's going to feel like we are sitting in a huge glass fish tank :lol
February 7, 200521 yr Hmm, what happened to the art deco look? I'm sure it will be stunning whatever the design. Can't wait to see it.

February 7, 200521 yr Artists by Movement: Art Deco 1920's to 1930's Art Deco is an elegant style of decorative art, furniture design and architecture which began as a Modernist reaction against the Art Nouveau style. It is characterized by the use of crisp, symmetrical geometric forms. One of the classic Art Deco images is that of 1930s-era skyscrapers such as New York's Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. The latter, designed by architect William Van Alen, is considered to be one of the world's great Art Deco buildings. The Art Deco style is reminiscent of the Precisionist art movement, which developed at about the same time. Well-known artists within the Art Deco movement included Tamara de Lempicka, glass artist Rene Lalique, fashion illustrator Erte and graphic designer Adolphe Mouron, known as Cassandre. http://www.artcyclopedia.com/history/art-deco.html

It would make the roof heavier and less likely to be damaged.
February 7, 200521 yr Loria is a cool cat. 678930[/snapback] He is a very cool cat... He awed everyone with the 2003 World Series rings. I'm sure he will awe us all once again with an amazing stadium.

That's just what we need, have out baseball team play in a GIANT GREENHOUSE!!!! Remember the glass panels in the Astrodome. Yup, all the grass that was attempted to be grown in there dried up to a crisp, hence the birth of Astro-turf.
February 7, 200521 yr Author Such a fate wouldn't fall on the Marlins' field with the retractable dome. If Loria/HOK were to incorporate the glass like the current ballpark in Houston, and to the concourses, it could be extremely beautiful as well as functional.
February 7, 200521 yr So... question. If Miggy stays with us throughout most of his career, and he goes on to become a legend. Will our new stadium be called... "The House that Miggy Built"? :lol

Whatever they build Im sure it would be state of the art, safe, comfortable, and a work of art. Loria is a cool cat :thumbup
