Why so much interst in Byrnes

because oakland wont trade Kotsay or Thomas, anyway Brynes is capable of a 20/20 season 70+RBIs and hits around 270

Sounds an awful lot like the stat line of someone we're prepared to run out of town *cough* Encarnacion *cough*.

The Marlins don't, MB.com does...

Actually also you can say Encs capable of 20-20 90+ RBI and around 270...

Byrnes gets on base...

and Byrnes isn't paid $4.5 million.

Encs OBP .313... Byrnes .347

Encs career high in OBP is .330

People on here hate OBP, trust me.

They treat OBP like it is a good looking girl with a butter face.

...I wouldn't say that, but it is by far the most over-rated stat right now.

Say what you want about it being indicative of a player's plate presence/individual ability, but I have a real hard time calling a guy with a high OBP but low offensive output (BA, RBI, HR) a "force." Yeah, it's great to have a guy on first base all the time, but you don't win games simply getting to first.

Anyway, I'll take a byrnes with a hint of plate discipline over Enc's much talked about 'potential' with absolutely no plate discipline, 100 times out of 100.

Byrnes is also a better slugger than Enc with a career .460 percentage compared to Enc's .439. Its not as if he is somehow making up for hitting by getting on base. He is better at getting on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and home. Im surprised this is even debatable. Run producing stats can be variable with opportunities.
